No it didn't ride the popularity of twilight, its based off books released in 2001, it premiered before twilight came out. Add to the fact it has real vampires not a bunch of shiney pussies who mascarade as vampires, and coherent character development. Its nothing like twilight.

Sons I just got back from the mall watching Toy Story 3, the line for twilight for friggen huge!
Only saw like 3 or 4 guys in the line, but from their looks pretty obvious they were dragged there(except that one dude who was wearing full black, including his nails. got).

Well then, that is a good fit, since none of the actors in the movies can act AT ALL. It is just horrible and awkward. It is absolutely amazing to me how bad the acting is.

The vampires in True Blood are every bit as overstylized as the vampires in Twilight... just in a more adult way. At least that's the impression I got in the five or so episodes of True Blood I watched before I got sick of it.

I saw the first season of True Blood and really liked it at first but by the end I had totally lost interest because it got so soap opera-ish. Haven't even attempted to see any more of it.

I still contend that it is historically awful, but I guess after being rewritten a million times, Romeo and Juliet had to eventually get this bad.

All is acting is just acting and yeah some do it better than others but damn, do you really expect oscar winning performances from these type of movies? I haven't seen any great acting in true blood either. Yeah, that's right true blood.
