He's 30, or will be in a week or two. Let's move on and look for a wing with our draft pick.
How 'bout some Obama posters and a good sized bag of weed?
Howard has had a lot of injuries and personal troubles lately. He will likely miss the start of next season because of an ACL surgery.
The consequence is that he will be quite cheap. Howard with a 1 year LLE contract ($2M) would be very tempting gamble.
Even coming off acl surgery, a 30 year old Josh Howard will still be able to get more than the BAE.
Well, he had his surgery in March so he could miss a big part of next season.
I guess Howard will sign a short term contract to show he is back at 100% and get a big long term contract. Maybe you're right and he will get more than the LLE. In that case, Spurs should pass.
If Howard could be had for the LLE I don't see how you'd turn that down.
JMO, but I think Howard ends up staying with the Wizards. They'll decline the team option but won't renounce rights to him unless they find some big name FA to take their money. Since no one wants to go to washington, they'll end up using Howard's surgery as leverage to get him to re-sign a multi year deal in the MLE range. At least that's how I see it playing out.
i like howard still think we should of drafted him back in 2003
but he is a ballhog and selfish player but a decent defender and a streaky shooter i would take him with the LLE(dont think he will take it) and if jefferson ends up taking off also
not sure about that. depends on the long term strategy of the new owners.
if they want to re start seriously, they will also look to get rid of most of the bad apples and Howard didn't exactly qualify as a high character veteran leader in the past years. (they might rather decide to overpay Miller to keep him for that role)
Wizards also have Young and Thornton as future wings and they have a small chance to end up with the #2 pick this draft, that will very likely turn into Evan Turner.
IMO, if they are smart, they don't re sign him and follow the Blazers/Thunder path of re building for the next 2 years.
nevermind![]()
He may be detrimental to the team, but if he can somewhat resemble what he used to be, and at a low price, it would be a good signing.
Agreed.
With Jefferson opting out of his contract, now Josh Howard has become a realistic option again. He'll likely miss the start of the season, but I don't see why the Spurs shouldn't at least attempt to pursue him. He's more talented than any of their other options (Brewer, Barnes, Jones, etc.) and could produce similar statistics to Jefferson.
What do you guys think? Should they now pursue Howard with Jefferson likely departing?
Howard's still out of the picture. The Spurs are still going to be limited to offering the BAE or whatever MLE leftovers there are after Splitter. Neither of which are going to be close to what kind of offers Howard will receive. The only possibility would be for the Spurs to S&T RJ to Washington for Howard, but that depends on 1) Howard wanting us 2) Jefferson wanting Washington and 3) Washington wanting RJ. No way all three of those things line up.
What better way for him to resurrect his career than to join the Spurs for a season?
If Howard's going cheap, maybe subs ute Mason for Jefferson in that equation.
I thought Pop and Tim wanted to draft him and RC went against there word from where i read from some website but yah I would of loved josh howard here e ally him never going to the mavs im pretty sure we would of won another one with howard here e ally that one in 06 he made a difference in that game 7 vs the spurs
Yeah Tim and Pop wanted Howard but RC voted em down and wanted to save the capspace for Jason Kidd....
i wish the spurs signed this guy for LLE would be perfect, but I guess they were concerns from teams because of ACL. I would of loved josh howard this offseason for the MLE, if we already had Splitter and he never got injured.
Celtics eye Howard?
The Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls have shown “serious interest” in free-agent forward Josh Howard, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.
While the Bulls could have the salary-cap space to sign Howard, depending on what happens with their offer sheet to J.J. Re , the Celtics would need a sign-and-trade to arrange a deal because they have already used their midlevel exception on Jermaine O’Neal.
Howard has yet to receive a contract offer. The Washington Wizards also have some interest in re-signing Howard.

So are they assuming that he wont take the LLE? or has boston used that as well.
If the Spurs could work out a reasonable deal with Jefferson, then I could see a gamble on Josh Howard (especially if the rumored Splitter contract #s are true).
