Next year the max salaries will be much smaller. What makes you think we can't just sign TP if max salaries are really around the MLE after next year? The team will have enough good, young players to keep TP interested. TP likes the city. The Spurs don't want to extend him b/c they will get a better contract by waiting for the next CBA contracts.
So why are you so sure TP will walk?

just b/c he talked about walking just means he is trying to turn up the heat, just like TD considered miami, and Manu talked about free agency. He would like for them to give him a contract now, but too bad.
