1st new tv we've had in years.
720 looks beautiful. Especially with the color and contrast ration of a plasma. 1080 is going to be better, but 720 will blow you away when compared to 480i.
, my no name 720p LCD has a beautiful picture. Plasma is so much better color and contrast wise.
And Samsung makes a damn good TV.
My wife gave me an angered look when I said "It's only 720 and not 1080".

if it's the first TV you've had in years, chances are you don't have high def programming or a bluray player any way.
I can guarantee your wife would never know the difference had you not told her it was 720p instead of 1080.

Warning.....the "brightness" control on the TV won't improve the intelligence of the writing on any TV show.

Do you plan on buying a Blu-ray player? If not than 720p isn't that big of a deal. It will handle dvd upconverts fine from a DVD player. You probably won't miss much with digital cable either.
Congrats on the TV. If you do decide you want Bluray awesomeness, then I'd suggest putting it up on craigslist & just seeing what you can get for it. Panasonic has a 42" 1080P for $130 more
