He's not the next DRob, but it was a stupid move to let the guy go. Give him 20 minutes a game and he'll shine.

If he had what it takes to be a great player or even a rotational player, don't you all think that he would have earned playing time by now? Bonner is an NBA player. And if you think Ian "sucks" then you probably haven't seen him play. Blair is the one who kept Ian from getting minutes. He was extremely productive and kept Ian out of the rotation. When it came to this offseason, Duncan, McDyess, Splitter and Blair left the Spurs with the option of Bonner or Mahinimi. There's really no role for Ian in that lineup, so it was a pretty easy decision to sign Bonner and use him to spread the floor when needed. Ian doesn't suck, there just wasn't any room for the guy.
I think it's stupid to develop a guy for that long and teach him the system, only to let him go like that. I hope he learns to limit the fouling and puts on some weight. I also hope the Spurs can bring him back sometime, but that's obviously highly unlikely.
You'll have company. There will be Ian threads bumped in the Spurs forum after every good game as well.
