Does that make the Jefferson signing not as bad? Meaning would your opinion of it change? Of course this is for those who are currently against the signing.

It obviously depends on what he contributes..

If the Spurs win the le, it obviously will be ignored, but it doesn't necessarily change anything..it's a bad contract either way, but if he earns it by helping in the playoffs and making a good contribution to a le, I don't think anybody would care about his contract..

His playoff debut as a Spur didn't go too well though..

Spurs won't win without his contribution tbh. Just asking if those against it would then be ok with it if it brings number 5.

Depends on what he does. What if Gary Neal and Splitter become two really good players for the Spurs.
Well them becoming good NBA players won't help much without anything from the starting SF. Getting pass whatever team comes out the east won't happen with a glaring hole at the SF position. Much less getting pass the Lakers. Spurs will need RJ to contribute as well as those two to pan out.

Uh, last I checked a contender is someone who has a chance at winning it all. So by default if they won it all the would be, as they would be the defending champs.

Either way if they did win (long shot I know) then it goes from being a "bad contract" to one that was needed to achieve their goal which was to bring Timmy number 5. After all he has done for the team if that happens, then it won't matter if the rebuilding process is prolonged because of a bad contract. He deserves that much. IMO

Everyone who doubted would have to send RJ nude pics of themselves.

They would owe it to him.

The Spurs can get by with the way RJ played last year if Splitter and Anderson/Neal fill it up. The Spurs would have been better if they had an inside presence like Splitter and didn't shoot 20% from 3 because of Bonner and Mason missing.
Not when the mismatch of Lebron or Artest come into play. Nobody on the roster could handle either one in the post. Yet still RJ will not stop them but it won't be as bad as having Manu trying to fight them in the post.

Haha yeah, I know. I've been kind of amused by people who think the Spurs are no longer contenders, as if they no longer can compete, and the games shouldn't be played.

I think the answer to your question is fairly obvious - of course it will make it better in most peoples eyes. I think retaining RJ was a good thing. They weren't going to get Mike Miller and there wasn't a better fit available.

Here's hoping Princess Peanut can Improve to a 15/7/3.5 producer, and find his place in the teams defensive scheme

Did you even think for 2 seconds before you posted that?

Of course that would justify the signing. The point is that RJ is not the missing piece to get us back into contention.

Us? You mean the Spurs? Either way the question wasn't if RJ is the missing piece.

don't know how to use the blue.

This idea of 'Spurs aren't contenders' is laughable to me. I wouldn't say they are favorites by ANY stretch of the imagination, but I don't see how people just look at matchups on paper and think there's no chance in . It's almost as if some feel you have to be a favorite to even be in contention. I suppose what some people are really saying by contending is getting to an elite tier where they can be favored in most situations.

Watching the games, the Lakers of course were better. The matchups killed SA v PHX. But I don't think there's a prohibitive favorite out there at this point. Especially in an 82 games season where so many things can happen. So many people seem to have fallen in love with the idea that the Spurs are in decline and more so than the rest of the league. Everyone ages. Not just Tim. I'd like to see a regular season game or thirty before I write anyone off or crown any team champion. Better yet, play the damn thing out. How quickly some peoples hearts turn to dog in the face adversity. There's a fine line between realism and defeatism.

The Spurs and we as fans got a bitter dose of reality last season... and the two before. I think when happens, people think its only going to get worse just like when things go well, people forget there were ever any obstacles along the way and begin to expect continual success at that same level.

Ok off the soapbox. It will be interesting to see the net effect of all the offseason movement.

bad ass post, alot of people buy into these lame articles on

hoopsworld just last year pop said " if we dont win i should be fired" that was his mindset just last year, alot of teams got better but when you think about it we dropped mason, finley, bogans, mahinmi they all sucked, tiago is like gold to this league and we havent had a skilled 7fter since D Rob we also had a rookie that grabbed nearly a 20/20 i mean !!! we are going to be damn good

It depends...if he gets injured or sucks so bad he doesnt gets PT and we still win it all then it was a bad signing. If he plays starter minutes and contributes then yes of course.

Um ok, so if the Spurs achieve the astronomically improbable goal of winning the NBA le in 2011, people are going to instead focus on an unpopular signing that occured 9 months prior.

    Ugggh
