Looking at this years Free agents that fit into the category of 3pt shooting big men I was thinking did the spurs do the right thing in signing Bonner to a long term overpriced contract or should they have went with another more affordable 3pt shooting big man instead that probably would of played close to a minimum contract or at least way more affordable than what bonner got.

Here's a list of 3pt shooting big men from this year's free agency that the spurs could of got for cheap inexpensive contracts, I also threw in the Craig brackins and Luke Harongody bc we could of them via the draft for way less then what we payed bonner:

    Tim Thomas
    Oleksiy Pecherov
    Anthony Tolliver
    Brian Cook
    Brian Scalabrine
    Steve Novak
    Craig Brackins
    Luke Harongody

So would u guys rather have one of the guys above for cheap contracts or was signing Matt bonner to his contract a much smarter and better decision for the spurs

Bonner may have the highest 3pt % out of all those guys, but his bad defense hurts us, his lack of athletism hurts us, his lack of rebounding hurts us and most of all his contract hurts us thats what Im getting at. all the other guys can't shoot as good as bonner, but they all pretty much are better than him in every other category and most of all they all would of cost less than bonner.

Not really. All those guys are really awful. Except for Tim Thomas.

Yep, don't forget it's not near no damn 40% when it really counts either, he shrivels up and shoots about 25% then it seems. I swear I saw a playoff game and others on boards were saying he did well, I looked and he shot 2-7 (Just seemed he hit two threes).

This thread could say Matt Bonner or SHYT, I would choose shyt.

Actually its " or ", but do you want 12 million 4 year contract or do you want 1 year $500,000-1.35 million

I know those guys aren't great; they are around the same as bonner, but they cost a lot less to fill the role Bonner does and that makes the spurs better, and gives them more money to help the team improve in other ways

I thought this was spurstalk, don't we talk about anything involving the spurs, like how the spurs can improve their team. I'm a spurs fan, and by overpaying a player we lose money to help our team improve in other ways like being able to offer more money to free agents than other teams.

Bonner is already signed. How are the Spurs going to save money by signing one of these stiffs? We don't just magically get rid of Bonner by signing Scalabrine . . . unless . . . They are the same person!

    Duh duh duh . . .

If we took Bonner completely off the books we still wouldn't have any extra money to spend because we are so far over the cap. It wouldn't give us any extra money for better free agents.

I was talking past tense, like before we signed Bonner we should of looked at these other options bc it would of saved us money now and in the future. Bonner's contract doesn't help us now or in the future.

maybe not this season, but in the season's to come it would of, and now the only way to get something for bonner is trading him, and I'm pretty sure no one is calling to see if bonner is available via a trade

Nice effort Srupsog, but save your energy.
They lack basketball knowledge and have no sincere interest in seeing a legit Spurs le run.

I did. Like I said, I'm no Bonner fan, but those other guys SUCK. At least Bonner is a decent shooter during the reg. season and Splitter should help get him out of the post for big stretches. Hopefully, Pop won't value his "corporate knowledge" in the playoffs.

I might have taken Novak for the minimum - his 31% last year was on very few minutes and an aberration when you consider his career average. In short, the guy can flat out shoot it.

Then again, Bonner actually tries pretty hard on D and attempts to board (even though he is not great at either), something I can't say for Novak, and Bonner's driving hook is actually pretty effective, something that Novak doesn't have.

All in all, I'm not upset that Bonner stayed, he was just overpaid a little. RJ, OTOH...

can you remaind me what he did in the playoffs?
