...the shouting continued on FAUX News against Peter King...
Via: Huff
House Republicans late Thursday were able to corral enough votes to defeat a bill that would have provided up to $7.4 billion in aid to those sickened by toxins resulting from the 9/11 attacks.
In the process, they set off a host of fiery speeches and denunciations from their Democratic colleagues and produced a veritable YouTube moment from Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y), whose district includes many of the affected.
Sit down and shut up! Classic!!
...the shouting continued on FAUX News against Peter King...
The FAUX News host keeps trying to save King
Here is a synopsis..
NY daily NewsKing, a Long Island Republican, is furious because he believes the measure would pass easily as a regular bill needing a simple majority — but Democrats fear the GOP might attach toxic provisions if they get the chance.
“The Democrats are guilty of moral cowardice and a failure of leadership,” King told the Daily News this morning.
“They put this up on the suspension calendar knowing it’s not going to get a two-thirds vote,” he fumed. “It’s really morally disgraceful… They are letting cops and firefighters die because their members don’t have the guts to take a vote.”
King acknowledged that the GOP — like the Democrats when they were in the minority — regularly tries to influence legislation and even kill it when they get the chance, as they are allowed under the regular legislative rules in the House.
The out-of-power party does that by offering a “motion to recommit” on the House floor which can send a bill back to the drawing board, often with instructions on how it should be redone. Lately, the GOP has attached language on abortion, immigration and other hot-button issues that divide the Democratic Party.
The 9/11 bill, with its emphasis on health, potentially could offer a vehicle to attack the recent health care reform law, though no one has said publicly that Republicans would attempt such a ploy. Republicans already tried to attach immigration and abortion restrictions to the bill when it was being written, and could again.
Drama queen. Play the violin some more. The Governemnt is not a slot machine.
Be mad at Bin Laden and try to collect the 7.4 billion dollars from him.
7.4 BILLION? WTF?
I assume you guys know there is already a 713 Million settlement offer on the table for the approximately 10,000 people involved. That 713 million would be paid out as follows:
The compensation system set up by the court would make payments ranging from $3,250 for people who aren't sick but worry they could fall ill in the future to as much as $1.5 million to the families of people who have died. Nonsmokers disabled by severe asthma might get between $800,000 and $1 million.
Thats what 713 Million buys INCLUDING legal fees.
What the do they need 7.4 BILLION for?
Why do you hate America, Jack?
You lib s continue to drink the kool...
Funny how it had good republican support in the committee, passing 25:8 and 33:12, but then no republican amendments passed. There were many republican sponsors who then voted NO.
The democrats keep talking about partisanship. When will they start leading the way?
Bill Summary & Status; H.R.847
Commitee report part 1
Commitee report part 2
H. R. 847
[Report No. 111–560, Parts I and II]
FINAL VOTE RESULTS FOR ROLL CALL 491
The article lies, which is expected of the Huff~n~Puff post. The CBO estimate has a direct spending of $7.2 billion and $10.5 billion pay as you go for a total of $19.7 billion. We all know CBO is usually very low on projected cost analysis:
COST ESTIMATE; June 25, 2010; H.R. 847; James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010
Part of the text in the House report pt. 2:
Consideration of creating the new Victim Compensation Fund contained in le II of H.R. 847 raises two questions. First, why should Congress reenact and expand the 9/11 Fund, providing millions in additional public compensation to the physical injury victims of the September 11 attacks, while no such Fund exists at all for the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing, the victims of the African Embassy bombing, the victims of the first World Trade Center attack in 1993 or, for that matter, the victims of the unprecedented disaster associated with Hurricane Katrina? Underlying this question is the issue of whether the federal government, i.e., the taxpayers of the United States, are to become in perpetuity the guarantors of last resort for all the tragedies that beset people over their lives. Members will have to make their own philosophical decision as to this first question.
The second question is whether the 9/11 Fund that will be created by H.R. 847 is written in such a manner that it will safeguard valuable taxpayer dollars while appropriately compensating only the actual victims of the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. The answer to the second question is much more clear--the Fund that will be created by H.R. 847 is open for much longer than is necessary (at least 21 years); gives far too much discretion to the Special Master considering the long-term nature of the Fund, which will have a larger set of claimants with claims of much more ambiguous causation than under the original Fund; and the size and unstructured nature of the Fund will make it highly susceptible to waste, fraud, and abuse. Simply put, the structure of the original 9/11 Fund will not work for the Fund that will be created by H.R. 847.
There may be a deserving class of claimants who are suffering respiratory and other physical ailments as a result of their work at Ground Zero. And it may be that the original 9/11 Fund should be reopened for a limited period of time in order to compensate those individuals. But the Fund created in H.R. 847 is not the original 9/11 Fund, nor is it being re-opened for a brief window. We are unable to support enactment of this legislation.

Reading comprehension fail?CBO estimates that enacting H.R. 847 would increase direct spending by $7.2 billion over the 2011-2015 period and $10.5 billion over the 2011-2020 period.

Indeed
Great stats. Why do you love Bin Laden?
Thank you. And I love America because I love freedom.
But I still don't understand why you hate America and our troops.
Is it because "they" have taken over and "they" are coming for you?
Yeah, that's probably why.
You love Bin Laden. you!
Why is it so wrong to love America, jack?
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy???!!!!!
I just don't understand...![]()
I'm pretty ignorant about this, but I really like his passion.![]()
You're a ing liberal toolbag Dan.
The Democraps have control of the House. They can pass any bill they want. Trying to blame this on the Republicans is about as lame as you can get.
But it doesn't surprise me with you. If Barney Franks ed a transves e and got chlamydia and blamed it on the Republicans, you'd post it here within minutes.
If the Democrat majority has such problems passing bills now, what makes anyone think that the GOP won't have trouble after the November elections? Dems can just pull the same tricks, and we'll continue to have a useless Congress ing at each other pretending to get stuff done. There's a gentleman's understanding between both parties, this is par for the course!
You already did, without any supporting story.
Bravo.
They're congressmen. And media types. Shouting. That is so awesome.
