I can see that. I think the biggest problem most have with the Black album is its overexposure in some instances (Sandman definitely being a prime example) and the fact that the album took the band from being still somewhat obscure and out of the mainstream (Justice and "One" put them on the verge), to being this commercially successful and viable monster -- random was now aboard the Metallica train and even people like myself had a hard time stomaching that after their first 4 albums -- you never want to share with "The ."
Brah don't get me wrong I like Metallica (although I only care for 2 songs on KEA). I would also add that the reason for people not caring for Metallica (besides it not being their type of music) is Lars Ulrich.

Gotta give Metallica their props. I believe they've sold more albums from 1986-current than any other rock act on the planet. There is a reason for that.
    What is that reason?

Yeah, that would fall into the " Era," as I've just coined it.

That was right around the releasing of Load and the Napster turned A LOT of people off. The Some Kind of Monster movie didn't help matters much, either.

I can't say I have a favorite album but Puppets seems to be the one I've got at the ready most. Lightning's got some great tracks, Justice has become underrated, imo, and Kill 'Em All will always have a warm place in my heart -- Jump in the Fire is forever my warm-up song when bustin' out the gui-tar.

Can't say that hasn't been a rotation of mine at one point or another.

I've always loved Chains but it seems like I only become a bigger fan the more years pass by. Just a great all-around band.

crofl Some Kind of Monster provided some major lulz

"let me choose my words carefully. your riffs are sounding a little stock to me"

    lol Lars

tbh, it would be hard to pick a favorite Metallica song, but I would probably pick Fade To Black. Quality tune, imho.

I could say this about each of the three. And yeah, totally understand about AIC. Every time I dig into Music Bank, I have a deeper appreciation for their ability to blend styles of guitar and vocals.

I can listen to one band one day and swear on my life that that band is tops, then the next day to the same for one of the other bands. All three are just so above anything else.

Metallica if they count as rock.

    I work out to them.
I go to sleep listening to them. (srs)
I have never gotten tired of their songs going on maybe a decade for me.

I don't even hate on the later stuff. Death Magnetic hits pretty hard while lifting weights. Bleeding Me is my favorite song.

Also Alice in Chains and NIN.

what does mainstream have to do with people's favorite bands? As if we don't know any bands that aren't mainstream? Maybe we just prefer particular mainstream bands over bands that aren't.

I know what youre talking about.. I have friends that are like that.. they think the most obscure and unheard of band they can be a fan of means they have a better understanding of music and better musical tastes. One of my friend will go as far as he can to try and never like any band that goes on the radio.. and once one of his favorite bands that he finds that is unheard of goes on he gives them up.

Never seen a problem with mainstream.. typically minus a couple of bands I like whatever they put on a rock station.

so you cant level it off at non mainstream maninstream bands but you have to be mega gay about it and like mainstream mainstream bands?

my favorite band that is not/wasn't ever mainstream is Simon Says/Key To Arson, they're damn good and would probably bukkake alot of the mainstream that is going on right now.

Agreed. Everybody wants to label music this and that....mainstream, non-mainstream, metalcore, death metal, blah blah blah. in music nerds Seems like a complete waste of time to me.

Not saying that at all..very hypocritical of you, mookie...you're saying that I'm leveling it off at non mainstream mainstream bands, but saying I'm being mega gay by liking mainstream bands. I don't have a problem with non mainstream bands...but to say "it's too mainstream in here," putting off a vibe that mainstream sucks, is just plain nonconformist..and that has always irked the out of me...no offense..
