Not much in the writeup. Mentions slippage due to age and injuries. Hill and Blair have bright futures. If Splitter meets expectations, they'll be better than most realize. Mentions with the great managemenet, they'll always find a way to stay in contention.

The Spurs have been the league's model franchise of the past decade. Although they've shown signs of slippage on the court, we continue to have faith that the top front office in the league will help them remain a winning team for the foreseeable future.
Injuries and age have taken their toll in San Antonio, particularly with Tim Duncan (age 34) and Manu Ginobili (33), but the Spurs also have some young legs: Tony Parker (28) remains in his prime, and George Hill (24) and DeJuan Blair (21) appear to have bright futures. If Tiago Splitter, their long-awaited import, can fulfill expectations, the Spurs could be a lot more formidable going forward than most realize.
Given the brainpower and spending power of the Spurs' stellar management, we think they'll continue to find ways to stay in contention.

The explanation makes sense -- a starting lineup of TP, GH3, Anderson, Blair and Splitter wouldn't be half bad in a few years. But if TP were to leave in a year, who knows how they'll blow the team up. It won't be the same Spurs, thats for sure, and we probably won't be in the top 10 for a few years.

This list is a pile of crap. And I'm not even talkin about the Spurs at #10.
1st of all- WTF are the Heat doing at #1...Isn't there a team out there that is the defending back-to-back NBA Champions???
2nd of all- The Rockets??? This needs no explanation.
And the straw that broke the camel's back- The Celtics aren't even on this list. So the team that won the East last year isn't "top 10".
And people have to pay $$$ to become insiders??? I wouldn't pay $0.01 to read that crap.
The Celtics were a few points away from being Champions... and yet they're not on the list?
And wtf have the Heat done?
By "future" power rankings, I think they mean moreso 3-6 years from now, not 3-6 months from now. Boston is probably not high because they're anticipating that most of their stars will retire, and Miami is high because they just locked up young stars for several years.
However, I do agree that the whole ESPN Insider thing is BS. Most of their articles don't seem to be worth paying for, and most of their rumors seem to come from local newspapers and such that you can read for free. (For the record, I do not have an Insider account.)
Exactly this is more or less how will teams fair in 3-5 years, not next season or the season after. Celtics have stars that are past their prime and 3-5 will be retiring or retired. Spurs will have retired Duncan and Manu by then, etc etc.
I agree though, not sure why the Rockets are so high; and the Lakers probably a bit high too, but they're assuming with their market, money etc they'll pay their way into contention in 3-5 when Kobe is starting to lose his luster.
As for Heat, probably not a crazy idea, they did just land 3 all-stars that will still be in their prime for the next 3-5 years.
About ESPN Insider, yeh seems like a big ripoff; it's not even important news, it just seems to be opinion based articles mostly based on how teams/players rank in their opinion; and last I checked ESPN's opinion is mostly worthless. I still remember the what 5 hour special on the "greatest college football team of all-time USC", who lost to the Longhorns. Too bad it didn't follow with another special on how great the Longhorns were; not that I'm still bitter.
Rockets doesn't surprise me that much. They have a good core of young players, they've drafted well the past few years, Yao is coming off the books soon, Adelman is a good coach, and Morey is proving to be a smart and aggressive GM.

It's called Future Power Rankings not Past Power Rankings. Its based upon the foreseable future, not soley on what a team has done record wise in the past.

Seriously fellow Spurs fans. So what if we are the model franchise of the past decade? We aint winning championships recently. So to me that counts for nothing. If you want to see another model franchise, look up Utah Jazz. They have been very good as well over the past 2 decades but havent won .
Let the team prove that we can win in this day and age and we can say that being a model franchise has helped the Spurs continue to win championships and not linger on our past.
