I just don't see him controlling and smothering Silva. Dan did it as well as anyone, but even he was eventually submitted..
Sonnen has been entertaining but he really doesn't have much of a shot here. I think he'll get some things done early but in time will be put away..

I agree.. Silva was very calm at the press conference and kept staring Sonnen down even after Sonnen turned away. Silva didn't take him light he is ready for him. Sonnen wanted his attention he clearly got it.. This should be a good fight in terms of fire-works.. Thank GOD after Silva's crapfest with Maia..
I think Silva knocks him out round 2 or 3...
Sonnen's apparently been dealing with a stomach bug and complaining about the interviews waking him up early on the west coast to air on the east coast. Hope he's not starting with the excuses.
If this ends in the first, it's Silva by knee on the takedown.
I'm at work and I only saw staredowns [no sound]
Amazing. Now I want Chael to make it happen even more. Still to come is weight-ins where you can see how guys can be intimidated by the other guy.
Anderson might be a fighter this time for what I saw.
I don't pay attention to anything Sonnen says. HE is always acting.. If he is that sick, pull out of the fight.. Otherwise man up..
I love how in the press conference, Silva wears earrings, a pink shirt, and a crooked hat. Just what Sonnen was rippin on him for![]()
Going to a sports bar to see this, pumped. Silva looks pissed, hope Chael makes him regret that anger![]()
I thought that was funny too..
Umm I just can't wait.
I as so pissed before Silva fought Maia and I knew he will beat him down ...
Now it seems like it's gonna be allout war like Joe Rogan said
Wow, great in stuff. I'm getting more and more jittery. Could someone please post the video or give a link of the weigh ins as fast as possible when the time comes cause I always have problems with live feed .
BTW, I really hope Fitch keeps the beard. I always love it when he's got the facial hair and head hair...in a totally heterosexual way
It's live at UFC.com now
later they will post the replay
Just keep checking back..
Alves 171.5 missed the weight..
He is gonna have to lose the .5 tonight and weigh in again..
This guy needs to go to 185 already..
Silva was really showing his "respect" for Chael :p
He's awesome in the cage, but I think he's shown himself to be a and I can't understand why so many people were cheering for him.
His reach will be the problem in 185.
He needs to lose some weight esp. some muscles and it's possible
Yea - how I hate Silva - he could not look in the eyes of sonnen
Chaels said what he was suppose to say and left. So much hate for Sonnen?
strange because silva gave us few really one of the most awefull fights in history.
Jeez hopefully sonnen will put him on his back and swing a hammer![]()
Alves missed weight on 2nd try will fight at that weight and lose 20% of his purse..
He better change something..
I'm thinking about changing my pick to Fitch here
Just watched it on Sherdog and first off, that crowd. What was with the boos for Sonnen and Cheers for Silva? I honestly was expecting the exact opposite. And then here comes little lap dog Ed Soares.
This is what they remind me of, and I'm sure you can guess who's who in that pic
Awesome Cuban...![]()
Welterweight fighter Thiago Alves' worries about making his cut turned out be justified.
Alves was the one athlete who failed to make weight today at the Ultimate Fighting Championship's official weigh-ins for UFC 117 in Oakland. Alves could not get lower than 171.5 pounds in two tries for his upcoming fight with Jon Fitch. Alves will be fined 20% of his purse.
Full results for the UFC 117 weigh-ins:
•Middleweight championship (185-pound maximum): Anderson Silva (184.5 pounds) vs. Chael Sonnen (185 pounds)
•Welterweight (170-pound maximum): Thiago Alves (171.5) vs. Jon Fitch (170.5)
•Welterweight: Ricardo Almeida (170.5) vs. Matt Hughes (170.5)

•Welterweight: Johny Hendricks (171) vs. Charlie Brenneman (171)
•Light heavyweight: Tim Boetsch (206) vs. Todd Brown (206)

•Welterweight: Dennis Hallman (171) vs. Ben Saunders (171)
Concerns about weight caused Alves to skip an open workout for the public on Wednesday, as the fighter reportedly weighed 177 pounds at that point. But he insisted that the weight cut was going well.
Weight issues have plagued him occasionally. Alves came in four pounds overweight for his June 2008 bout with Matt Hughes at UFC 85 in England. He rarely hits the 170-pound mark -- he usually comes in at 171, just low enough to make the one-pound allowance that fighters typically give each other.
Alves has said he suffered an ankle injury shortly before the Hughes bout that prevented him from doing cardio work that would have let him shed weight. This time, Alves is coming off a layoff of more than a year.

I like this card, Alves vs Fitch, Nelson vs Dos Santos are the fights that I'm excited about!
Alves Is a devastating striker with earthshattering leg kicks but Fitch is a well rounded well tested veteran. I'd like to see the striker win, but if Alves hasn't improved his take-down defense (his timing on his sprawl), I think Fitch will make it a long night for him ala GSP. Also How well Alves has recovered from his brain surgery may play a factor.
Roy Nelson is a very well rounded heavy weight with a good wrestling background and knockout power who really knows how to smother opponents underneath him with his big gut.. Dos Santos though is a very quick mobile heavy weight and is a flash knock-out threat with both hands.. I think Nelson is going to have to make this fight a wrestling match because although Big Country can throw some bombs on the feet, Dos Santos' hands are second only to Shane Carwin in the heavy weight devision imo.
