Dude, I make like 40K a year and I live fat as Kirstie Alley's cankles. I don't know what it is to have a family and mortgage, but 100K is beyond what most people make. I don't know if it's a lot, but it sure as is something more than sufficient.

For me personally, yes. I had a chance to dream of a job at 104K recently and my personal expenses didn't rise above 2,000 per month in bills. I didn't know the taxes, so I estimated 50%. At that rate, I made 4,000 per month. 2,000 in unmarked income a month was a lot for me.

It depends on where you live and the cost of living in your area obviously.

Id be happy earning 150k/yr, that's my 5 year goal. Then of course things will be more expensive in 5 years but i think 150k would still be ok.

My main thing is i want passive income and not just income from working.

You're right, I should have specified major business/culture cities (i.e. have people trying to move there). 100k in the metros of Chicago, Minny/St.Paul, Bos, LA, SF, DC, NYC, etc won't get you much, especially after taxes. If you choose to live in suburbs or exurbs, that's a different story, I guess. No question cracking a hundred is a lot of money in most cases, though.

Very true, it all depends on your personal situation (married - spouse working or not, kids, house, cars, etc.). Obviously a single person would be making out better w/no other responsibilities making that salary than a married person w/one income etc.

Again, it all depends on each person's situation and responsibilities.

Yeah it all depends on your expenses basically...if you make 100k a year...but you're living in 300k house driving a Porsche spending money left and right everyday...than no...you're probably working poor...meaning all the money you're making you're spending all up...thus cancelling out all that income...so it all depends...if you make a certain amount...no matter what it is...and your expenses are extremely low...than no matter how much you make...you're living large...

If you are using money for only selfish reasons, it will never be enough.

If you are using money to provide for family and to help the less fortunate, it will always be enough.

Someone who makes over 100K per year and feels the need to ask on an online forum if doing so is a lot, without answering the question in the obvious way that everyone so far has about other factors such as cost of living, how much you spend, etc., then that person probably should not be making 100K per year.

So there's really only 3 possibilities here, tlong is either:
    1. said dumbass that should not be making 100k
    2. a tool
    3. not making 100k and simply asking a question

My uninformed guess is that he's making over 100k and has been for a few years, but is wondering why he doesn't feel fulfilled.

Very good possibility, but in this economy, virtually everyone should be fulfilled with over 100k/year.
