Heard about this last night and it was all over the morning news shows.![]()
LMAO!
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/10/ny...dant.html?_r=1On Monday, on the tarmac at Kennedy International Airport, a JetBlue attendant named Steven Slater decided he had had enough, the authorities said.
After a dispute with a passenger who stood to fetch luggage too soon on a full flight just in from Pittsburgh, Mr. Slater, 38 and a career flight attendant, got on the public-address intercom and let loose a string of invective.
Then, the authorities said, he pulled the lever that activates the emergency-evacuation chute and slid down, making a dramatic exit not only from the plane but, one imagines, also from his airline career.
On his way out the door, he paused to grab a beer from the beverage cart. Then he ran to the employee parking lot and drove off, the authorities said.
...
The official offered the following account:
One passenger stood up to retrieve belongings from the overhead compartment before the crew had given permission. Mr. Slater instructed the person to remain seated. The passenger defied him. Mr. Slater reached the passenger just as the person was pulling down the luggage, which struck Mr. Slater in the head.
Mr. Slater asked for an apology. The passenger instead cursed at him. Mr. Slater got on the plane’s public-address system and cursed out the passenger for all to hear. Then, after declaring that 20 years in the airline industry was enough, he blurted out, “It’s been great!” He activated the inflatable evacuation slide at a service exit and left the world of flight attending behind.

Actually that is kinda cool...........but, I heard he is in trouble by the FAA now for activating that slide. Its only supposed to be deployed in an emergency. He will probably just get a fine.
Dealing with the public sucks.
Jess was telling me about this last night. Its a damn shame that the article doesn't tell you what he says because its classic. I don't quite remember but I know it was funny.
it sure is
Sucks he got arrested. Everyone who's worked a service industry position knows how much people can be dip s that somehow manage to get under the thickest of skin.
According to a blog post from a passenger on the flight, he said:
"To the passenger who just called me a mother er: you. I've been in this business 28 years and I've had it."
Airplanes bring out the worst in people. I don't blame him for quitting.
Props to the guy.
Enough is enough with all these ungrateful a-holes in this world.
He should have in a drawer as well.
Also to be noted is that he was found in bed with his boyfriend when they found him at home to arrest him.

Sliding down the....nevermiind.
he was gay? the male FA was gay? OMG
Flying regulated airlines used to be not so unpleasant.
Another case, like energy deregulation, where deregulation really screwed up the business for suppliers and consumers. "free market" flying is now basic dehumanized cattle-movement.
does that alter your opinion on the guy or solidify it?
Define solidify
What he said " you, you, you, you're cool, and you, I'm out" then he grabbed the beer and slid down the slide.
From what I heard yesterday he could get up to 7 years, in re ed
if that guy gets 7 years for being a badass for 5 minutes.
You call that being a badass? Being a badass would have been handling the passenger right then and there in the aisle not screaming like a and then escaping like one too.
That's the way to quit a job.

Turns out that rather than being a working-class hero, this guy is just your garden variety flaming got drama queen.
