Ariza is a 30 mpg starter and is being paid as such. He's not a 15 mpg backup, which is what the Spurs need.

Whether you like Jefferson or not, they didn't pay him what they did to be a full-time backup.

I'd prefer a better defender, but given what's available and their limited resources, Hayes makes sense. By all accounts, he's a good character guy, he's a decent shooter and an adequate defender. He's also a big SF, at 6-8 228. Supposedly, he's waiting for an offer above the veteran's minimum. Like Bogans last year, my guess is the Spurs are waiting him out. They were rumored to have interest in him two years ago.

Nice. I'm glad to see Collison in a place where he's going to get some minutes and hopefully continue to develop.

    Yao/Miller
    Scola/Hill
    Battier/Budinger
    Martin/Lee
    Brooks/Lowry

This trade solidifies Budingers place in the lineup and fills our need at backup sg, plus takes care of the logjam at sf, all while saving the team $$ and making the bench more offensively potent. This made us better and saved us money. Morey is pretty good.

Rockets aren't as talented as the elite teams in the NBA, but I like the depth and balance of their roster. They have a lot of quality insurance at each position in case of injuries. Imo, still don't have the talent to legitimately compete, but the trade really does balance out the roster.

Glad that chucker Ariza is gone. Now he can throw up countless three pointers for the Hornets "Clunk"

Now the Nets have 3 decent PF/C: Lopez, Favors, and Murphy

    PG: Harris, Farmar
    SG: Williams, Morrow
    SF: Outlaw, Damion James
    PF: Murphy, Favors
    C: Lopez, Petro,

Not the best but they have a much better lineup than last season
agreed and if what the Nets think about Favors comes ture, having Murphy won't be bad

Rockets Trade Ariza, Part of 4-Team Deal
Updated: Wednesday, 11 Aug 2010, 2:48 PM CDT

    MARK BERMAN
    Sports Director
HOUSTON - NBA sources confirm for FOX 26 Sports the Houston Rockets traded guard/forward Trevor Ariza to the New Orleans Hornets as part of a four-team deal also involving the Indiana Pacers and the New Jersey Nets.

Sources confirm the Rockets get guard Courtney Lee from the Nets.

ESPN reports the Pacers will get guard Darren Collison from the Hornets along with forward James Posey in the four-team deal, with Indiana sending forward Troy Murphy to the Nets.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has not been available for comment.

Well guess Indiana got a little bit faster and got rid of a redundant Troy Murphy. Pacers were hurting for guards.

Spurs, if they are going to win a le, need a better starting fit at SF. They might not want Ariza because they paid RJ, but that is just the mistake that keeps on giving.

Chuck Hayes? He is not a SF.

Brilliant trade by the Rockets. Seriously, our rookie GM got hosed by a better GM. No we're stuck with Okafor and Ariza. LOL!

As for Favors, it says what the Nets and nearly everyone has said since him being drafted: he has an extremely high upside, but isn't ready to start or play a major role yet. Now, for at least the majority of his rookie season, he doesn't have to.
    said what I was thinking

Houston made a very, very good trade here, but I agree with Jamstone..they might have the deepest team in the NBA, and they're definitely one of the most balanced teams well, but they don't have the star power..

Yao is a legit #2, maybe #1 IMO, but he's obviously unreliable for a long season..they don't have a legit #2 option either..I can see both Martin and Brooks being good #3 scoring options on a team, even Scola as well, but they're lacking for the #1 and #2 best players on the team, which is obviously very crucial in the NBA..

If Yao miraculously stays healthy for an entire season, and Kevin Martin stays healthy/returns to form, I can see them being very dangerous..they have a great balance of defense/outside shooting/post play/depth..

Chuck Hayes is twice the defender that Ariza is. He can defend SF's. Can't shoot if his life depended on it but he can defend.

Only reason Morey went after Ariza is that statistically on paper his stats were close to T-Mac's for the same number of shot attempts. Just slightly lower percentage. This is where the intangibles come in that the statistics can't show, like Basketball IQ. Ariza has none where T-Mac could fill it up or get to the foul line. You didn't cringe when T-Mac took a shot whereas when Ariza would drive to the basket, you worried about him turning it over or taking an off balance shot which he'd usually miss. Plus T-Mac had way better handles than Ariza.

Rockets have their elite defenders with Battier and Hayes.

Getting rid of Ariza and bring Lee on board. Win!

    Kudo's to Morey.
