They do, if they offer Favors. The Knicks are limited draft pick wise and don't have a prospect the caliber of Favors. But I'm skeptical the Nets would offer Favors.

It would depend on how quickly and how good the Nets became with Anthony, which is somewhat difficult to predict. Because of that, I can't judge the quality of the picks, so I couldn't say definitively if Murphy, Williams and two future 1sts is better than Gallinari, Curry, Chandler, a future 1st and taking Balkman's salary off the Nuggets hands. Of course, the former I made up and the latter I'm basing off a rumor and adding parts to, but I think those are realistic offers.

I'm Skeptical if the Nets would offer Favors as well, I mean if they think he can be really good in the future then I don't know if I'd want Nets to trade him, it is difficult to predict how the Nets would do with Anthony, but fans can't look at last years Nets team and guess, since Nets only have 3 players from last year, and it wasn't any of the players who sucked

I would offer Battier, Hill, Jefferies, 2011-13 first round picks and cash. You get a defensive minded sf that can hit the open three and is expiring in Battier, a good young bench player in Hill, a good defender with length in Jefferies (also expiring), three first round draft picks to help the rebuilding process, and a little cash to help push that plan along.

    Yao/Miller
    Scola/Hayes/Patterson
    Anthony/CBud
    Martin/Lee
    Brooks/Lowry

That's a pretty decent package for Denver, and allows Carmelo to come to a team that hasn't been absolutely gutted.

If we give them NY 2012 pick is that still considered trading consecutive picks?

I think if you have multiple first round picks it is ok. I think the "non-consecutive" rule only applies if it is your only first rounder in a year. But I have to clarify.

looks like melo already made up his mind. if the nuggets play their cards right, they can rebuild quickly by trading melo. the nuggets still have pretty young players in nene, smith, and lawson. they should get at least two future first picks in return plus a young project like favors, gallinari, or whatever the rockets are willing to give up.

personally, if i were to trade melo to the rockets, i would want at least scola, martin, and a first round pick in return. rockets should do it too because they can always play battier next to melo at the wing.

the rockets are trading with the nuggets, not the grizzlies.

I want him but not at the expense of gutting our team.

    Maybe for something like:

Battier, Jeffries, Budinger, Hill and one of the NY Picks.

They get a young replacement SF with promise in Cbud and a young PF in hill as well as a good SF in Shane that is expiring, and Jeffries to make salaries match...and give up one of the NY picks.

Overall though, to be completely honest, I really don't want the Rockets to go too deep into him, he is sort of a chucker, and I want to see what this team can do on it's own with a healthy Yao Ming.

You HAVE to throw in both picks, or another future one.

Say what you will about him, but getting 20-25 points a night on 10-12 shots puts you very damn high on the list!!

If the Nets could get by with a couple of draft picks and a trade exception (I don't know if this is possible), the Nets would have Favors, Lopez, Anythony, and Harris as their nucleus. Look at this team:

PG - Devin Harris / Jordan Farmar
SG - Anthony Morrow / Quinton Ross
SF - Carmelo Anthony / Travis Outlaw
PF - Derrick Favors / Troy Murphy / Sean May
C - Brook Lopez / Kris Humphries / Johan Petro

They'll also have the unknowns of their rookie class--Zoubek, Uzoh, and James. They might get something out of these guys. That's a 50-win team in the East, possibly a home-court team.

(wrote it also in the Knicks/big3 thread)
I'm sure the nets wouldn't hesitate for a second to offer Favors for Melo.
(no team in the NBA would. Favors has a lot of potential, but like every rookie, he is totally unproven. could very well have just the same ceiling like Okafor.)

and the story, that Brooklyn kid Anthony leads the Nets back to Brooklyn is just to good. and book it, Prokhorov is not the type of owner who wants to wait several years if a young player in fact develops into a superstar, if he can get a superstar immediately.

(btw. think about the money. who will bring in more $ immediately. Melo or Favors?)

the Nets package could be almost perfect for the Nuggets, if they start the rebuilding. (and they will, if they can't hold Melo)
Favors, the 2011 1st rounder, Murphy, they might even be able to demand Williams.
the contract of K-mart expires 2011, he will be 33 or 34 then. Favors is a great option to take his place. K-Mart becomes a trade chip at deadline, as well as Murphy, as well as Billupps. (or they let all expire and become a major player for the 2011 free agency)

agree with the part about Melo in Brooklyn(that's be a great story) and also agree about prokhorov, not wanting to wait if he can get a great player, but never know maybe he wants to rebuild the team the right way

You're not remembering correctly on this one. He averaged over 20 points even after coming back from the broken wrist.

They probably don't want Martin or Brooks but one or two of our young prospects, expiring contracts, and draft picks.

Morey is a guy who never trades three guys for one. The most he'll do is two guys for one and offer future picks, trade exception or cash.

He never had a real chance to acquire a superstar. Not saying that Carmelo isn't "Boshing" us, but this was confirmed by SI. He would have to give up the farm and his left nut for Melo
