I see. If Dr. Laura says it, context doesn't matter. If Obama says it, it's vitally important to know the context. Kinda makes Laura's point, don't ya think?
It's from an audiobook, dawg, relax. Your attempt to highlight some kind of hypocrisy has not diminished my desire for Dr. Laura to kiss my asshole for being a ty radio host trying to make an ill-conceived point. No need to defend her, she backtracked a few days ago.

What was her point exactly? The way I see it, her point was "If I can say some controversial , people will be talking about me and my pathetic radio show again. And what's more controversial than the word ######?"

She was probably foaming at the mouth the second she knew a black lady wanting to discuss racial issues called in.

To be honest, I don't care for Dr. Laura. You're right, she jumped on the controversy that would ensue from her use of the word.
the way I see it, it's a sad thing that one can draw a huge amount of attention to one's self by displaying ignorance in public.
It's a word, for crying out loud. It has no power in and of itself. It can only offend you if you choose to be offended.
Of course, using it is either a bid for attention or an attempt to degrade. Dr. Laura found a third way to use it....a surefire ratings boost.

The truly bottomline here is that if you use the word as part of your regular vocabulary, you are indeed a racist.

No matter what race you are.

Dr. Laura was right but we live in a world where everything we say is scrutinized and judged. People can and moan about the n word all they want but they know that what Dr. Laura said was right. It's a double standard. This whole policing of words needs to stop. The n word either needs be banned completely or not at all. That means that if it's banned, no one can say it. If it's not banned then anyone can say it. Dr. Laura shouldn't have said the n word because people love to bash, trash, and judge a person when that word is said. Those people that do the judging and bashing should look in the mirror. Everyone has said something offensive and/or racist at point in their lifetime. No one is perfect either.

I have a dream that one day white people and black people alike will finally be free to say the n-word without fear of backlash. I feel so censored having to hold my tongue whenever I want to say "n*****," which is often because it flows so well with the rest of my everyday vocabulary.

Why are so many white people so concerned, outraged and seemingly jealous that some black people say this word to each other, but don't approve of people who are not black using it? I've never understood this.

How about letting it be what it is? How about not questioning it or pretending that you should have a say in it and just accepting it? It doesn't have to make sense to you, you don't have to like it, but you shouldn't go around using the word just because some black people do. If they're not offended saying it to one another but they are by someone who's not black saying it, then shouldn't that be reason enough not to use it?

Why are blacks seemingly the only race where it's okay for so many to not be politically correct? Take this board for example. I've seen people use the word and a bunch of people call them on it and make a big deal of it, yet oodles of people use the n word and no one says a damn thing.

White people don't really care about it that much. I think they just don't want to hear people when certain words are said such as the n-word and . When Imus had his nappy headed hoe incident, people treated him like he killed and raped someone. The same could be said for Isaiah Washingtion when he called T.R Knight a . People wanted to have Washington's head on a stick. People say stupid things all the time. Why is it so shocking and a crime when someone does it? This has been going since Adam and Eve. And then there is all the hypocrisy too with people pointing fingers and judging too. Take a look in the mirror, everyone has had a dumbass moment and/or said something in public that was offensive and/or hurtful.

U don't know how whites think though. You ain't white and the N-word hurts you exactly as much as blacks. there's been no special word for your race because "white people don't really care about your race that much", which doesn't suggest anything like respectability etc....

I'm the most famous person under 10yrs of age and I'm black. There are millions of other kids my age living in this country but none is nearly as formidable as me. I'm black but i feel no prejudice. I never feels it an offense when someone calls the N-word greeting me. the N-word has been thoroughly leached and is no longer an insulting word like its origin.
