Back then yes, Shaq was way better than Kobe. Although to be fair, Kobe was definitely a top 5 player in the league the last two years of their threepeat.

Doesn't determine the better player. Dennis Johnson won one over Larry Bird, James Worthy won one over Magic Johnson, Joe Dumars won one over Isiah. I don't see how a finals MVP dictates how good a player is.
No, Tony Parker wasn't better or even more important than Tim Duncan 4 years ago. Shaq was better than Kobe during the course of the 3 peat, but Kobe did deserve the mvp trophy in 2001.
Though Daddy has debased himself something fierce ever since Dallas went to Florida and Nowitski, et al fled the side door.
tee, hee.
Hey Son you were probably too young to remember this so take a few minutes to view the vids below. It's just one example of many but a great one why Spur fan never recovered from Kobe's early rape exploits and why Shaq should un-ass one of those meaningless MVP awards...
Shaq more dominant for a 'time' yes. Better - No. There is a difference. This is why I'm loathed on the board because I have a canny ability to bring the truth. Prepare for the Spurs ASS RAPE in 3....2.....1......
Part 1/2
Part 2/2
also gasol this year was better than kobe
Majority of the time, yes. All the time? No
I didn't really watch the NBA until 03-04 so I didn't see the 2001 Finals. I'm just curious if Kobe had a chance to win the Finals MVP that year because I've seen replays of Shaq fouling out in a crucial game and Kobe taking over at the end.
Did Kobe just not play well that whole series and had one good game? Or did Shaq get that Finals MVP because he's Shaq?
Do you remember when the commentators were talking about if Kobe could win the Finals MVP without his team winning?
some argue if there was a "Playoffs MVP", Kobe probably woulda got one or two during the 3-peat era.
Fixed..
rather be in Al-Quobe then in LeChokeville.
lol Mayweather not ducking the best.
Prime Shaq is the best/most dominant player I've ever seen.
I would agree with this. Especially in 2000. 2001 the power was shifting especially earlier inthe playoffs in fact kobe was probably their playoff MVP overall but Shaq was better in the Finals ...
Finals MVP determines who was a better player during that span of games.
Shaq played bigger than Kobe when they won their les together.
Wade played bigger than Shaq when they won their le together.
Parker played bigger than Duncan or Ginobili in '07 in the Finals, even though most will agree he is not the "better player" overall, or even throughout the rest of those playoffs.
That being said, I think that Prime Shaq was a much harder guard and more dominant force than Prime Kobe.
Sorry to quibble but DJ's Finals MVP came in '79 when he was with the Sonics.
That was the year 2000, where he did not deserve it at all. If it were a PLAYOFFS MVP he deserved it in 2001 though
