cant veto when u get teed money when u signed that contact, they know iat the end of the day nba is a business...
only way to veto is if they fail a medical
If Parker was to be traded in the right transaction that would strengthen the last chance for Duncan while simultaneously not losing Parker to 2011 free agency for nothing, what trade veto rights do NBA players have/not have?
(It's just a for instance, I realize that Gregor Bumford would not trade Parker for LeBron James or anyone else not named Mike Finley.)
With reports of Denver being absolute on moving Marshmellow Anthony, it made me wonder if a player could veto a trade. Lets say that as soft as he is, Marshmellow we can all agree is tons better then Soft Jefferson. If Denver said "hey, Parker might be about as good as it's gonna get" -could Eva and Tony veto that trade?
Again Trolls, it's just a for instance. Reality is Denver most likely insist that Parker sign an extension and he aint gonna do that in Denver. The question is do NBA players have trade veto rights?

The only leverage either player has is to refuse to sign an extension before the trade. That might scare off the other team. No one wants to give up one of their stars for a one year rental, and both players are in the last year of their deals.
Only two players in the NBA, Kobe and Dirk, have no-trade clauses in their contracts. There is an obscure rule that allows certain marginal players on one-year contracts to refuse a trade, but aside from Kobe and Dirk every decent player in the NBA can be traded against his wishes.
^^ You wonder with a one year deal only if Spurs have a better chance of Championship with Parker or Anthony?
I like Parker, but currently with no SF we have no chance.
With Parker gone, GHill can run the point.
lol, what makes you think they'd give up Melo for TP??
Players without a No Trade Clause have absolutely no say is what trades they can/will be involved in. There is no current Spurs with a no trade clause in their contract. Before this offseason Kobe had the only No Trade Clause in the NBA. I believe Dirk now has one as well, so they are the only two player who's contracts contain such a clause.
*In order to obtain a No Trade Clause, a player must meet all of the following conditions:
1. Sign a new contract - this clause cannot be obtained through a contract extension
2. Have played in the NBA for a minimum of 8 seasons
3. Have played with the same team (that is giving the contract) for a minimum of 4 years.
I like this topic but as I scratch my butt and smell my hand I realise that I have to go.
parker could not report to other team
parker could say he would leave via fa next year
Finley had a player option. Like all players with such an option, there was a small window within which he could not be traded.
Basically, players can be traded up until the February trade deadline. Once the deadline passes, no player can be traded until the season ends for his team. Once a team's season ends, they can trade players that are under contract for the following season. Players that will become free agents on July 1st may not be traded except in a S&T that cannot be executed until the end of the July moratorium. Players that can become free agents due to a contract option, like Finley that year, also may not be traded until they have exercised their option to remain with team.
So there was a window from the day the Spurs were eliminated until the day Finley exercised his option within which he was not allowed to be traded. Thus, it was impossible to use him in the RJ trade.
Finley couldn't be traded for the same reason RJ couldn't this summer. If for any reason, a player can be a FA on 1 July, he can't be traded. RJ could opt out, and a few years ago, Finley might NOT have opted in.
Trade Parker thread!
Finley had a big trade kicker. He didn't have a no trade clause.
Final year of contract, has made it known he wants out.
What makes you think Melo is better as a SF then Parker is as a PG?
Parker has kicked ass in many years for the Spurs. The 2006 disaster he was injured as *&^% after coach Numb Nutts left him in with a comfy lead to get hammered by non medicated Ron Artest.
Keep Parker at any cost post!
So he can bail for nothing at the end of the year and go to L.A. to replace Derek Swisher.
Or overpay and overextend him so we can continue to suck ass for at least 8 more playoff years!
Have the Big 3 till year 2032! Make that the Big 4 with Matty Bonner.
Big 5 with RJ!
"big trade kicker"
Expound por favor.
Um.....Everything? He's big for his position which parker is not. A better scorer, one of the top in the NBA . For there respective positions hes about on par with parker in passing and maby a little better defensively because of his elite athleticism (although im not saying melo is a great defender) as parker is not really known for those two traits as a pg either. Plus melo still has some defensive upside and his rebounding is above average.
As #1 option for the Thuggets who shoots an ave of 23 times a game of course he scores more. Which is not to say Marshmellow is not a good scorer, he is.
Defense, meh.
Team player? This is where Marshmellow is amoung the punkiest of a crop of new generation punks. Not sure how much you believe in the stat "win shares" -and I'm not married to it- but Anthonys is amoung the suckiest of All Star and near all star players.
Parker being #1 option on a team like the Thuggets may well boost his scoring ave near 30ppg too.
Playoffs Parker has shown he can be clutch too. 2007 MVP.
Mello? Not so. Not blaming the Nuggetts downfall on him but he is a punk.
So who makes the Spurs chances better for just 2011 playoffs?
