Interesting enough, the highlights I saw Splitter looked like straight up garbage on D. He stood around, got pushed around, and looked terrible. That will NOT work in the NBA. He is going to have to play a lot lot better or Pop will be all over him all year. I am discouraged after seeing the clips of him playing.

As mentioned already, international game isn't the NBA.

Second - box score analyst is foolish. Splitter played well and LO had another spaceball game. No surprise there. Odom always has issues with post players more physical than him. Fortunately, he rarely will be guarding Splitter if the teams meet. But Odom can't guard Millsap or even Baby Davis in the post.

Haslem in terms of impact. Quality glue big man. But he's not a franchise player in the NBA. I wonder if he even is a starter for SA.

This white dude was Tiago´s teamate in Spain. Thats why the pick and roll was working so well yesterday. His name is Marcelo Huertas FYI.

It goes without saying that FIBA rules and court dimensions are different. Scola is an outstanding offensive player, in any league or venue.

Splitter looked good. Not the type of player I was suspecting considering how he was hyped but a solid role player. He's not Scola, but he'll help the Spurs.

Offense - can score in the post but takes too long for him. That dribble, dribble, dribble approach (announcer called it accurately as a 'Charles Barkley') doesn't work in the NBA. And again, that was on a lighter opponent in LO (who he did abuse). Didn't do much against Chandler. He moved very well off the pick/roll.

He'll do the dirty work on O but he's not a scorer. Didn't show a jump shot either.

Defense - Solid post defense (although Team USA doesn't have any good post players) but he'll be attacked and pick up a lot of fouls next year. Good help defender but not NBA-elite size so he's not going to block a lot of shots. Not going to get a lot of steals like Nene either.

My guess on next year - an Udonis Haslem-like impact. 25 min, 9 pts, 7-8 boards, .5 blocks per game.

Impact - it helps SA in that they have another big defender so its not just Duncan. He's not great but solid, and that may keep Duncan's legs fresher. But he's far from a savior or championship piece. Just not the offensive threat. But considering the price paid, he wasn't expected to be.

I don't think it was you who said it in the other thread, but who do you think is a better post defender? LO or Pau?

And I believe you'd have a better impression of him if he'd been the focal point of Brazil's offense. Stupid Leandro ing hogging the ball.

I haven't seen a whole lot of this guy, but I was impressed enough to think the Spurs should take a look at bringing him over next year. Especially if TP splits.

I don't think he has the game to be the focal point of an NBA offense. Passing on the perimeter is one thing, out the post for a setup is another.

He did have trouble dealing with the length of Team USA but that likely was due to unfamilarity - he'll probably adjust.

As for LO vs Pau - the edge goes to Pau. Stronger and able to keep position, always uses his length, doesn't make the bonehead fouls and gambles LO does.

I believed LO needed a break this summer as much as Pau and Kobe. He's not going to have it next season if he's counted on for a major role. He was getting killed by 3 of the 4 backup PFs he faced in the playoffs.

As a Laker fan I'm hoping Bynum is at least as healthy as last reg season (missing 15 games is par for course for bigs) and I'm excited about Caracter's potential.

The less LO is counted on, the better he is.

He isn't that slow. I thought he was actually pretty quick, a good passer and he's got terrific handles. There are a lot of PGs in the NBA who aren't fast. Most of them actually. There are only a handful of PGs in the NBA with jets.

Beno Udrih has something most of those guys don't: a load of natural talent. Very few guys are that lazy and manage to stay in the NBA as long as he has.

But he would suffer guarding athletic point guards and he needs to work on his outside shot.

All in all, he cant be worse than half backups PGs in the league.

That is a more realistic assessment. He isn't strong enough to defend the pick and roll adequately. He needs to bulk up a little. Defense and perimeter shooting are definitely his weaknesses. He is plenty quick.
