If it's not about obscurity, why are you responding to me instead of the person who brought it up?
It's not a question of obscurity. Nobody's named a great album.
This hasn't been a good year for music for whatever reason. Certainly not from MGMT or Arcade Fire.
If it's not about obscurity, why are you responding to me instead of the person who brought it up?
Because you're the last response I read defending an indefensible year. They happen all the time -- no need to take it personally.
I take everything personally because I am an uptight asshole.
Seriously though, how many albums released this year have you listened to?
More than you
Seriously, though... could you even answer that?
I've listened to what little is available to listen to from people who make albums -- there just seems to be more interest in DJ music this year. If I had to give out awards, I'd give some out to Matt Pond and Teenage Fanclub's new ones, but I don't actually think they're that great -- they just happen to not suck as badly as Arcade Fire's heavy-handed mess, for one.
I haven't yet listened to a 2010 album. The way I've been going with music lately, I probably won't until 2013 or 14.
I usually catch up near the end of the year, but my 2010 listening has been limited too. I've listened to a few albums but most of them only once or twice. If I had to pick a favorite I guess it would be Local Natives' Gorilla Manor, since it's the only 2010 album I can think of that I've given a repeat listen or two.
Radiohead is to IronMexican as MGMT is to dirk4mvp.
What a chode.
Arcade Fire is like the last band to call obscure or underground. They had a live youtube concert, they were #1 on the billboard for a while(I think), and they're music is easily accessible(Not 2deep4u)
Since when? I've never looked like a gigantic and said MGMT changed the way I look at life.
This is Happening
I'm waiting the albums from Radiohead, Royksopp, Interpol and Kanye West.
I don't think there's any chance Radiohead put something out this year.
lol interpol. Nothing worth while since LP1.
I'm actually interested if Interpol will sound any better this time. Haven't heard from the band for a long time. I'm willing to give them a chance. But if they, at the slightest chance, sound in their next album, I will totally forget them as an abortion of music.
lol radiohead
lol making fans wait for nothing
I agree. Bands like Interpol, The Strokes, and Bloc Party release one decent album then fade into obscurity. All these genre-revival bands are just flashes in the pan.
Why is it that on every "music" thread... redzero and IronMexican decide they are going to stick around the thread to criticize what people post?
It's beginning to be pathetic... trying to get people into liking what you like.
If people didn't have bad taste, I wouldn't have to criticize them.
And I only responded to somebody who said he liked Congratulations--something I like as well.
I didn't criticize.
Oh, except for the interpol post.
One of the fun things about getting older is watching one's scrupulously-cultivated aesthetic sensibilities become progressively more incomprehensible and gauche to younger generations.
I liked "Congratulations" as well. And "End Times" by Eels is a really good album, too.
Got that one in the queue. His last few haven't really excited me but the earlier stuff was good enough that I'll always give him a shot.
None of this will matter once the new Deerhunter album comes out.
Slash.
