With deep playoff experience over the last 10 years (Dirk Nowitzki- and Tim Duncan-led teams). They've met in the postseason in 2001, 2003, 2006, 2009, and 2010. In 2006, they met as two 60-win teams in a seven-game series. I think there's only been one other series with more combined wins between the teams.

The division crown has been decided between these two in seven of the last ten NBA seasons.

These teams have won every Western Conference not won by the Los Angeles Lakers in the last ten seasons.

I will say though that I hate the Mavericks forever for robbing of us of our best chance to repeat. The 2006 Spurs were pretty beast, the Mavericks were just constructed perfectly to beat us. And when Dirk Nowitzki steps on Tim Duncan's foot and falls down, thus giving Tim his 6th foul...well, gonna be hard to win games when you can't even breathe on him. But that's okay, they got what they deserved in the finals.

1. They stopped repeat (spurs would of probably beat Heat but would of been a great series)
2. Cuban has fanned the flames ....
3. And they have won 2 of the playoff series. A true rivalry starts when there are wins on BOTH sides ...
4. the star players of BOTH teams play the same position (sort of) even if they do it differently.
