How many Larry O'Briens would the Spurs have if:

    A) Spurs resigned Steven Jackson to a 4-5 year deal in the summer of 2003.

    B) Spurs signed Scola in Summer of 2006 or 2007.

Two biggest blunders in franchise history were these two nut ups

I say Spurs would have won 5 straight from 2003-2004-2005-2006-2007 and possibly in 2008.

I say Tim and the Spurs would have at least 6 les if R.C made the most out of the talented prime big 3 he had.

    What do you think?

Who knows. The Spurs did not always do the best job of putting the most talent around Tim, but they have a business model that is responsible and they did their best to operate within it. You can't fault them for that. It has produced multiple les and winning seasons.

Sure, they could have done some more to help Tim out and not relied on him so much, but what's done is done and the Spurs are still solid.

The Spurs chose to trade Scola.

Jackson chose not to negotiate with the Spurs.

You can blame the FO for Scola. Jackson's journey through the NBA was his own doing.

Would they have been good enough? I don't see why not. But would it have happened? If the Spurs had won any of those coulda-woulda-shoulda les and strung together some B2Bs, whats to say other teams wouldn't have been more drastic in making moves strictly to counter the team the Spurs were fielding? That alone could have kept them from winning even the later les they DID win.

What about if Spurs traded Tim Duncan for Scottie Pippen in the summer of 1997 to give Robinson a few more runs?

What if the Spurs drafted the other Argentine guard with the 57th pick instead of Manu? What if the Spurs decided to pay Derek Anderson?

I don't see Scola as a what might have been or if they had drafted so-and-so. They had his rights. Houston paid him the same amount as the Spurs paid Bonner. Scola was not a pie-in-the-sky scenario. Having Scola on that contract is not the same as having Stephen Jackson, who might have cost the Spurs Manu. Imagine subtracting Bonner and adding Scola. Spurs would be elite contenders now (assuming they used the MLE that was used on Dice for a better fitting SF like Ariza).

The Scola thing is the greatest mistake that the Spurs might have done this decade. However, can you fault them considering how successful they've been this decade? Getting four rings in eleven years is a pipe dream to 90 percent of all the teams in the NBA. We should feel grateful for getting those LOBs

We were .4 seconds away from one le and a bonehead Ginobili play away from another le. Our FO is the best in the league still, and letting S-Jax walk away was not that bad. Scola was the only blunder.

If we subtracted Bonner we would have added Jackie Butler and still no Scola.

And it's still a waste of time.

What if Red McCombs doesn't turn down a trade for Charles Barkley in 1992? I believe mings Willie Anderson and someone else. It was a done deal IIRC all it needed was Red's approval.
