If Minnesota misses the playoffs, does that mean there's legitimate talk of a curse for the team that opens up the season against the superbowl winner on Thursday nights?

2009: ans (After going 13-3 in 2008, the lose this game, start 0-6, and miss the playoffs)

2008: Redskins (After making the playoffs in 2007, they lose this game, then start off well, but implode at the end of the season and miss the playoffs)

2007: Saints (After going 10-6 in 2006, making the NFC championship and being what many consider the NFC favorites in 2007, they open the season 0-4, and miss the playoffs at 7-9)

2006: Dolphins (Finished the 2005 season 9-7 on a 6 game winning streak, got Daunte Culpepper and were everyone's sleeper in 2006 with Nick Saban even getting Bill Belichick comparisons. They open up by losing to Pittsburgh, going 6-10, and then losing Saban at the end of the year)

2005: Raiders (were not a good team in 2004, but after getting Randy Moss + Lamont Jordan in the off season were thought to be a possible sleeper with a potent offense. Instead they actually take a step backwards and implode completely)

Colts made playoffs after losing to Pats on Thursday night. Still lost to Pats in playoffs that year though.

Well curses aren't correct every year, I'm saying that if the Vikings are the 6-10 team they looked like last night, does 6 consecutive years mean we can start calling it a curse? That's the point of this thread.

I believe 2004 was the first year of that Super Bowl winner Thursday night home game kickoff anyway. Road teams in that game are 0-7 so its definitely cursed, but I guess Peyton Manning is so good he transcends curses. Good news considering the Super Bowl loser curse. But Arizona broke that last year so I'm confident that a better Colts team can too.

Curses aren't real, so there is no reason to exclude the Vikings from the playoffs solely because they lost last night.

They looked 6-10 because they were staffed like a a 6-10 team. They started two freaking safeties at CB, were missing their top receiver and the squad they put on the field had enough time together at training to have a cup of coffee. They'll be fine, they held the Champs and their highly potent offense to only 14 points and Brees has a really pedestrian game, he should have shredded that patchwork of DBs for 300+ and a pair of TDs instead of relying on Pierre Thomas and the left guard to carry the O in the second half. The Saint's played like a 10-6 team at best, but will win 11-13 games because their division is trash.

Minny's going to take their lumps for the first 8 weeks and will probably finish 10-6 but will be playing like a 12+ win team come playoff time as long as everyone stays healthy. Looking at it completely objectively, Minny should have their heads up and the Saints should be a little weary.

Yes they are. Your team can lose a game because you wiped your ass left handed instead of right.
