Can't you Google reviews for that book. I'm sure amazon has some.

    Yes and yes.

When the Game was Ours by Bird and Magic with Jackie McMullan is another recently published basketball book worth reading.

i read it - about 90% of it. i found it a very good read.

here are some parts i recommend:
    1. history of the game - i think it was called "how we got here"
    2. the secret of the game - using duncan's spurs as one of the teams who got it
    3. the pantheon of basketball - timmy is ranked no. 7 all-time

for funzies - he has a chapter where he puts the best nba team all-time on the floor to compete against "the martians" or smth like that. timmy starts at power forward and may also be on the court if the team decides to go small, by moving to center. i really enjoyed this chapter.

an honorable mention goes to the "what if" chapter, where he attempts to figure out what would have happened if ... e.g. portland drafted jordan, etc

I've yet to get around to finishing it, but if you're a hoops junky and enjoy Bill Simmons usually ... I'm thinking you'd enjoy it (as long as you're not a huge Wilt fan).

    Offseason nonsense.

I saw a bunch of random, nonsensical threads and thought to myself: the inmates be runnin' the asylum -- hadn't seen Kori or LJ in a while.

So I said "hi" to them, as a monkey. ... As Blackjack the Omnipotent monkey man who just happened to find an emoticon he wasn't aware of.

    Like I said, offseason nonsense.

Go read Tip-Off as well. It covers the 1984 NBA draft, how it changed the league. David Stern's debut as commissioner, why the Blazers selected Sam Bowie. Charles Barkley dominating the Olympic try-outs but got cut because Coach Knight couldn't control him. John Stockton's unknown factor and much more.

Entertaining and I like his HOF ideas, but some of his rankings are questionable. For instance Garnett on a different (higher) level than Robinson.

Because Garnett is a Celtic. He still has a major bias for anything Boston even though he tries his best to hide it.

Good book. By the end of it Simmons' Celts bias gets a bit old, but like other people have said on this thread there's some great stuff in there. If you do read it, make sure to pay attention to the footnotes in each chapter. Some of them are hilarious.

Really good book, Simmons is a Celtic homer, but is good read. On Sportsnation they actually tried shooting through the book with a gun, its thick.
