LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB Fox 41) -- Democrat Jack Conway will face off with Republican Rand Paul in November in the race for Jim Bunning's U. S. Senate seat.
Paul gets a boost Thursday with a fundraiser in Louisville featuring former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. She is in Louisville as the keynote speaker for the National Barbershop Quartet Convention.
In an exclusive interview on Fox in the Morning, Paul talked about the economy, the tea party and what he feels his role would be in Washington. He says tea party support gives him an opportunity to bridge the values of both parties.
Among the key issues for Paul is a stand against decificit spending. He says, "You can't borrow your way to prosperity." He says the government does not have to spend more to stimulate the economy. "I think that's the wrong answer."
On his lapel, Paul wears a penny painted red. He says a tea party member from Louisville gave it to him as a way to say "not one red cent more, they've taken enough of my money. Taxed enough already."
Paul explains, "there is a compe ion going on between government and private enterprise. I want to leave more money in Kentucky with private enterprise." Paul says Democrats and President Obama want more of that money in Washington.
The Bowling Green eye surgeon is running against Democratic attorney general Jack Conway for the seat of retiring Republican Senator Jim Bunning.
In the first negative ad of Kentucky's general election campaign, Conway portrays Paul as soft on crime. The 30-second ad began airing across Kentucky this week. It continues a theme for Conway, the state attorney general who is trying to elevate crime to a central issue in the Senate race.
The ad cites a clip from November of 2008 from the Kentucky Educational Television commentary program "Kentucky Tonight." On the show, Paul said: "I'm for having crimes and having laws against things that are violent crimes but things that are nonviolent shouldn't be against the law."
Paul tells Fox 41 that the Conway ad is "dishonest." He says the comment was taken out of context. Paul says he was discussing whether things like motorcycle helmets or the lottery should be against the law because they are unsafe or immoral. Paul says his point was that adults can make certain decisions for themselves without government intervention.
Paul also says he doesn't get to campaign every day because he still has his medical practice in southern Kentucky. He says the simple fact is that he has a mortgage to pay.

Your missing the point. He means the govt is trying to enter the private sector with its current stragety. This could be either directly or through subsidizing/bailing out private corps, then keeping the purse string contnrol
but getting involved with palin is a joke. I dont know what the to think about this dude. I dont think anything good can come of all this Jeb/Palin/paul campaigning.

Privatization is not moving govt into the private sector, it's dumping govt responsibility with little or no oversight and at much higher taxpayer costs, onto for-profit scammers.
