On Thursday, 300 economists and analysts issued a statement warning that the “deficit hawks” who appear to be gaining the upper hand in our economic debates are threatening to turn an already deeply painful recession into a full-blown depression.
The wonks advocate increased aid to cash-strapped states and municipalities, direct support for public service jobs and comprehensive investments in America’s aging infrastructure.

deficits are long-term problem, short term the priority is getting people back to work, and consumption up.
Repugs and conservatives have NO SUGGESTION, no policy, NO interest in getting the economy going again.
When I voted for Obama (and campaigned for him for that matter) I do so under the impression he was someone would listen to the facts from experts, ignore the noise, and lead even if it was unpopular.
If the stimulus and further economic actions are any indicator I was pretty ing wrong about him.

Except thats not the other news. I'm sure that there are economists out there who will say that, but I think there are far more who go with this school of thought. Over the past several years Krugman has been verified time and time and time again. I'm very hesitant not to go with what he and others say.

High levels of unemployment contribute just as much if not moreso to long term deficits than stimulus packages do.
You see, its kind of like not spending money on food in order to save money. That works out great until you end up in the ER with an even larger expenditure.

They billionaire bankers who own the national debt typically put out bull like this. They just want money, that's all.
Fixing the system was supposed to be done outside of the stimulus. The stimulus itself was necessary for America beyond Wall Street even if they benefited. Of course we screwed the pooch in actually passing true financial reform while the country is busy arguing about a ing mosque.
