The Californian woman dubbed Octomom for having eight babies via fertility treatment faces losing her home and going bankrupt.
Nadya Suleman, 35, who vowed when the octuplets were born in January 2009 that she would ‘never go on welfare’, is accepting state handouts and is in ‘dire financial straits’, according to reports in the United States.
Miss Suleman’s lawyer Jeff Czech confirmed the single mother, who also has six other children using the same unnamed sperm donor, is considering taking welfare payments.
She is already accepting state handouts for some of her children who are ‘developmentally and mentally challenged’ as a result of their low birth weight.
Miss Suleman was vilified when the babies were born for being a single mother with no visible means of supporting her family. A reality show about her failed to materialise but she has made money from interviews and a do entary about life in her crowded home in a Los Angeles suburb.
However, last night a friend told a Los Angeles TV station: ‘Nadya is behind in her mortgage payments and is facing foreclosure. She has gone through all the money she made through TV shows and that was donated when the babies were born.
'She thought people would embrace her and that companies would be rushing to give her free stuff but that just hasn’t happened. She is very lonely and miserable.’
Miss Suleman’s parents condemned her as ‘selfish’.
Last night calls to Miss Suleman went unanswered.

Even if you managed to feed each mouth on $4 dollars a meal (which would be damn near impossible), thats $168 a day, or $5208 a month. And that's just covering three meals a day for the kids, not counting herself.

The backlash against her for utilizing fertility treatment in a wholly irresponsible way when she already had 6 kids under 8 years of age killed any chance of a reality tv show. And then her subsequent television appearances where she seemed to be totally delusional pretty much put the nail in the coffin.
Say what you will about the Duggars or Kate and her brood - neither are shows I watch - at least they never come across as completely bat crazy, and have been able to or have found ways to support their children.
And much as I loathe Octomom (and I really, really do for the effect that she has had on rush-job response legislation for regulation of infertility treatments and setting back public opinions on IF treatments like IVF), those kids deserve better.
