Messi is technically and fundamentally brilliant, a complete player. LeBron isn't, he is more of a Didier Drogba.
Barcelona is not the Cleveland Cavaliers, they have a great roster of players in their prime - football is a team sport, it is often Americans that try to glorify individual players (to sell/market the games). LeBron does everything for Cleveland, handling the ball, scoring, dishing and garnering all the praises, therefore when his team fails it is on his head.
Messi does not have the luxury of Xavi and Iniesta (who are like the two best central midfielders in the world) playing behind him on Argentina - hence he struggled 'scoring goals' in the World Cup. He still created a ton of opportunities though, which is what he usually does at Barcelona when not scoring.

The WC is played every 4 years and with a team that is not the one you usually play with.
If you want to compare the NBA playoffs with anything football related it should be the Champions League, although that isn't accurate either.
However, looking past this, the Messi WC/Lebron PO comparisson isn't that bad, both had good individual performances but their teams didn't win it.
Cleveland Cavaliers = Argentina NT, not Barcelona.
