Also as a general bit of strategy: a lot of times, you have several players (bigs and smalls) that are still playing that night but you have better options to fill your spots. This is where the UTIL comes in. You check your standing on h2h and see what you're down. Your stat stars, CP3, Kobe, Lebron, Melo, Wade, Duncan, Camby, Howard, are going to determine where the meat of your stats come from. But, a lot of these players have a crucial flaw in at least one stat category which is going to be the one you're lacking in that series. You make up for this with a UTIL player that specializes in that flawed area.
Example: Last year I was very guard-heavy. Kobe was my main guy. So I'd always make sure to play Andersen or Tyrus Thomas even at UTIL whenever possible -- and even at the expense of other gains -- for the sake of getting some much-needed blocks.
Shane Battier is a great UTIL for fg%. Roger Mason for a 3ptm or two.
So, think stats, not "who would I want on my team." Also, think strategy. Each team's a puzzle, and not every player fits. I've seen some great FA left on the board simply be cause no one found a use (points are easy to come by, devaluing guys like parker as a result). I've traded and had traded to me some very good players (see: Pau Gasol) because I needed stats in other areas.
Just general FYI.
