Segway company owner dies after falling into river on the unique two-wheeler
A British businessman who last year bought the company that makes the two-wheeled Segway personal transporter has died in an accident on one of the vehicles.
Police in West Yorkshire said Monday that 62-year-old James Heselden and a Segway were found in the River Wharfe near Boston Spa, in northern England.
Police said a member of the public had reported seeing a man fall over a 30-foot (9-meter) drop into the river on Sunday.
Heselden bought control of the New Hampshire-based Segway company in December.
He made a fortune through his firm Hesco Bastion which developed a system replacing sand bags to protect troops.
p.s. I liked this piece about him: http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/...ay?ft=1&f=1001

Yikes!
Not very good advertising, to say the least.
Something tells me these won't be selling now.![]()
He drove it off a cliff...I'm sorry, but thats funny.
I wonder what he had going on with him. You just don't drive yourself off a ing cliff. No one is that stupid.
Nah, he apparently just ed up. He was driving on a rough gravel path at the edge of the cliff. Some new off road version of the Segway...
Poetic justice, or just irony?
Apparently an off-cliff version as well.
If I read this correctly, this wasn't the Segway inventor, right? This was the guy who bought the company from that guy right?
I ask because the guy who actually started and invented the Segway has invented many very good things especially for the handicap. He is currently under contract with the DoD to invent fully functioning prosthetic arms (and after that legs) for soldiers. He gave a demonstration of it and was able to do amazing tasks with them (like pick up and drink from a glass). Hopefully this wasn't him.
It wasn't the inventor. It was the guy who bought the company last year.
That is how I read it, just wanted to make sure. That inventor is doing some really good things and it would be a shame if he was lost.
The man who died made some significant contributions also.

I kind of feel bad for stealing that Dr. Pepper from Randall's last night when I bought cigarettes now.
This is horrible news...The owner of the Segway company died when he drove his Segway over a cliff... ?
It's kind of like George Foreman grilling himself to death...
Segwacide has been ruled out…He was text messaging….

I told him his segway couldn't jump the river, but would he listen? NOOOOOO!
