If he's going to trial without a deal for less than a gram it sounds like the one he's got isn't worth a either.
<1 gram of coke is still a state jail felony.

the baggy was in his car.

The prosecutor has an easy case to try here, based on what's been presented so far. I'm betting the plea deal still involves some jail time.

Should have plead no contest to possession if you had no priors. Would have cost a lot less than the $4k, that's for sure!

    No jail time....

    Deferred judification for 2 years
    150 hours community service
    $1500 fine

Judge also slapped on I have to attend AA meetings 3 times a week for 9 ing months!

Hopefully there is some way to have my probation officer request to have that dropped after some time showing that I am, indeed, sober.

If you have no priors you have to get probation for under a gram. It's required by law. Most minor felonies you can get deferred adjudication if it's your first offense.

thats probably the best case scenario imo. AA meetings could be fun. you'll meet lots of drinking buddies there.

AA for 9 months? That ing sucks ass. You're going to be spoonfed a bunch of ing religious bull and pressured to make AA your entire social life. It's sickening the they teach people about how they're powerless to fight the demons of inanimate objects like alcohol or drugs as if you have no personal choice or accountability. AA is a ing nightmare which has a success rate of like 5%; the same as for alcoholics who don't attend that bull .

Considering the thread you started a few days ago, I'd be very surprised if your time in AA leads to a revelation of sobriety. Especially if the probation is structured to ensure your active participation in the AA meetings -- likely hard to hide your daily consumption of 12+ beers if you're required to share and/or get a sponsor.
