How about Manu drawing up the last play.![]()
It was awesome especially with the way it was done against Vinnie Del Negro. It adds a whole lot of subtext considering Del Negro didn't leave on perfect terms with Pop.
Super excited for a preseason win.
Manu is smart, has passion and confidence. I think he could be a good coach.
Well 5-6 years down the road once ginobili is retired, if he really wants to, he'll certainly have a place on the spurs coaching staff. I can see him pulling that kind of stunt for a couple of years. I don't think he'd want to be a head coach ever, but I think he'd enjoy contributing to the spurs coaching organization.
I don't believe I ever heard the story of how and why Del Negro left. Can someone elaborate?
Manu has expressed many times he would not want to be a coach once he retires.
Here's hoping that this game changed his mind.
he would be so much better then aj
oh I like that pop went to him kepted him in the game mentally
and being he can only play25 minutes a game
he can really help the other players on the bench watching the game with them
That was a great coaching decision by Pop. If it didn't work, then big deal. But if it did work then what better way can you think of to bring a group of guys closer together.
Any players who felt like "I've got to do (x), b/c this is Gregg Poppovich's team," now feels like its the players' team as well. That's the kind of creative chemistry building move I was looking for out of Pop. Great stuff!

if that is his path, unfortunately, it won't be in the US-:-(
It would probably be in Argentina.![]()
giving him a praise but still saying how in fact he really sucks as a player. Well played![]()
I don't know the whole story, but Kevin O' Keefe as a journalist for the express news, at the time, used the situation with Del Negro to bash Pop in every-way possible. He publicly demanded that Pop keep Del Negro and is basically the original fire Pop bandwaggoner. What part Del Negro played to exacerbate the situation is up for debate. But it wasn't pretty. And I believe it lead to Del Negro writing an open letter to the express, explaining his discontent.
did not say he sucked
just said he can play only 25 minutes a game
he is good for 25 minutes
Sweet, basic play. Simmons down-screen for Neal, Gomes switches to Neal. Neal fights up top for position to get the inbounds pass. Simmons sets up at the left elbow and receives the high-post entry pass from Neal. Blair comes across to right elbow as Neal pushes Gomes into Blair for a flair screen. Simmons over the top to flairing Neal, MONEY!
The Spurs tried this play in clutch time last year, but missed, IIRC..it was in a game where they made a comeback at the end..does anybody remember the game?..I don't feel like looking it up..
Cleveland maybe? just a guess. I didn't see the play tonight at the end but remember Mason missing a game winner in Cleveland last year
Yeah, that was the first game that popped into my mind, too.
Oh, and have I mentioned that I love me some Manu Ginobili?![]()
Just saw it, awesome. You gotta love Manu's smile afterwards - something between the lines of "It worked, huh? Big deal, told you so" and "Oh boy, it actually worked".
Anyway, Manu is such a smart and cool guy.
Manu is the smartest player in the NBA currently!
And among the smartest players of all time, in the company of the immortal Bill Russell.....
As a coach, he would offer/share a lot, the most important being that he is a good person, not selfish, he is mature......
(He always shared the basketball, he shared the limelight......
Manu is a player's player! A coaches' dream!)
Hail Manu!!!!!!
Good job, Manu!

Manu's fundamental quality is respect, he gets it and he gives it.
Also, authenticity, and true self-confidence with no iness or aggression.
