I like it the way it is. Never change the rules because the officials can't do their job. Being able to tackle a guy on a long pass if you're worried about getting beat is a cop-out.

tbh the only rules that should ever be changed are ones that improve player safety. i'm fine with big hits but not if they cause injuries that lead to former players only being able to say "huck it chuck it FOOTBALL!!!!" when they're in their sixties. but if you get hit and break a shoulder or tear something then that's what you get for playing football.
you think he wants to tall to the ball coach efter det one?
If the rule is changed, they take away a team's weapon. It's not their fault they paid big money for WRs who can jump ball ala Fitzgerald and the CB is dumb enough to realize the team is desperate to be in FG range.
I also dont want the CBs hacking and grabbing my 1WR because he lacks the speed and anticipation to keep up with him.
If they even consider changing it, make the PI reviewable and give the refs the option of calling a 15 yd penalty if the PI is deemed intentional/desperate yardage by chucking it down field OR spot the ball where the foul was committed when it is reviewed unintentional.
15? I'd make it 10! what a joke, this will turn into soccer/basketball pretty soon, teams will start actually trying to draw PI calls, tell their WRs to make contact and flop.
IMO it shouldn't be so black and white. Most of the time it should just be 15 yards, but they should have something like "blatant pass interference" as a spot of the foul enforcement when the defender is obviously intentionally interfering because he was beat.
15 yards max would be ideal, IMO.
Honestly though, I'd like to see the old 5 yd unintentional, 15 yd intentional facemask penalty brought back.
How would that make games five and a half hours? If you made it so you can have unlimited reviews then it would make it 5 1/2 hours
You only get 2 challenges per game and 3 if you win the previous 2. I wouldn't have a problem with making certain penalties reviewable.
But I like PI's the way they are.
Those of you saying make it two tierd are being really stupid, imo. If the current rule can't be interpreted by officials why on earth do you want to make it a harder judgement? The rule is fine as is. Yeah, sometimes teams get hosed by a bad call but thats not on the rule.
I have no problem with how the current rule is, my only beef is these spot of the ball fouls that occur on interference when the receiver had a small chance at making the catch regardless.
So what? The defensive backs shouldn't interfere. Its like in basketball where a defender bails out an offensive player in a bad spot with a foul.
The advantage should go to the offense.
I also don't have a problem with making PI reviewable.
Not in my book.
You say they "shouldn't interfere" as if every time a D-back interferes he makes a conscious decision to do so and could have easily avoided it. There's incidental contact that's flagged as interference all the time.
15 yards sounds good to me. College football has it right again.
Just like they have it right, or at least better, regardng overtime play
Yeah, no. IF a defensive back can't play defense without bumping the receiver while the ball is in the air then thats on the defensive back for committing interference.
The only way I might adjust the rule is making it so the ball is placed on the 2 or 3 yard line instead of the 1, if the interference occurs in the end zone. Make it less of an automatic touchdown. But I would never change it to a 15-yard penalty.
I agree that the offense should get the advantage but there is still the unintentional PI. Those over the shoulder passes where contact with the DB would really be unintentional because the DB doesnt even know where the ball is.
Penalty should be as it is, I dont want to see defeated DBs grabbing WRs.
but it doesn't seem fair when offensive pass interference is just a 10 yard penalty.
seems to me that the opposite would be to push the ball backwards the distance it was thrown.
Offensive pass interference is a ten yard penalty and loss of whatever happened on the play. Miles Austin was penalized the entire distance of the play, six points and ten yards when he pushed off.
he wasn't penalized the entire distance of the play because it wasn't a play.
that's no different than a defender interfering, catching the ball and going the other way for 6.
Um, exactly. When the play is called back, you lose the result of the play. I'm not sure how we're disagreeing here.
Um, you responded to my post. If you need me to slow down these fast moving words for you, let me know.
