CA had the best state university system in country, and probably world, it made CA one of the top, richest, most productive economies in the world for decades, then conservatives and Repugs started their anti-tax referendums and ran CA into a hole.
Proving that investment in education pays off for everybody, and not investing in anything like education, sewers, water, electricity, roads, hurts everybody.

We had Timothy McVeigh and the Michigan Militia and Dylan Klebold, that nice boy in Columbine, yeah, he used to live here, too. And then there's Kwame Kilpatrick and Gerald Ford's pardon of Richard Nixon, and Dr. Death. President Obama is now running two of the three automakers. And Detroit is a crime-riddled, obese, post-industrialized ghost town. Let's all throw some beer at Ron Artest.
Point is: We all have our crazies--every state. Still, I'm glad George W. Bush isn't from Michigan.
