Spurs Waive Two
SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they have waived center Marcus Cousin. Cousin was signed by San Antonio on September 27 and appeared in five preseason games, averaging 5.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 15.8 minutes.
At the same time the Spurs have placed guard Kevin Palmer on waivers. Palmer was signed by San Antonio on October 20.
The Spurs roster now stands at 14.
so... bobby simmons is staying then?
So the point of picking up Palmer was....?
Yeah, the one-day signing has replaced D-League player allocation.
so it was a smart move by the Spurs
Gee's still on the roster. I hope he plays good tonight.
Moreso for the Toros. I think some team might try to block the Toros with Cousin the way they blocked the Dakota Wizards with Palmer. I wouldn't be surprised if it was another Texas team.
I hope Cousin winds up with the Toros. He has a nice scoring touch and size and might develop into a player for us one day.
Me too and I hope so.
Palmer waived?
I've heard of a cup of coffee, but this is ridiculous. (Hope he didn't have to sell his house.)
Like perhaps the Frisco (Texas) Legends?
What a dumb name for a developmental team. Courtesy of Cubes.
I could see either them or the Vipers doing it.
BTW, Cuban doesn't own the Legends. Donnie Nelson and some Chinese dude do.
I actually believe the fact you can't teach size and would rather have seen the Spurs keep Cousins on the 15 man roster and assign him to the Toros. Why risk him being picked up by another team. Young 6'11 bigs showing some potential are not a dime a dozen. Could be a move that comes back to haunt the spurs if someone else picks him up.
there are about a 50 Cousin level 7 footers on the bubble. Spurs won't be able to sign all of them to prevent other teams from signing.
and btw. keeping Cousin costs 10 times the money a D legue contract costs. and counts almost 800K against the cup. not good business. especially if it pushes you over the tax threshold. in that case it quickly becomes a 3 million $ move.
Technically, keeping Cousin costs the Spurs ∞ more money than having him on a D-League contract with the Toros; the league actually pays player salaries for the latter.
From what little I have seen of him, I do think has much more NBA potential than, say, Darryl Watkins. Still trying to figure out why people were pining for that guy.
My theory is that they aren't crazy about Gee so they are trying to find someone better. Palmer, obviously, is not the guy.
If Gee gets to any time tonight at all, he needs to play his ass off.
IMO, some fans see Jag thats 6'11" and start salavating.
Well there goes this season's 7' savior.
Frisco gets all the cool . What kind of town like Frisco, Texas gets a ing professional soccer stadium?
Because it's an affluent area where the taxpayers don't mind paying for stuff like that. They have a beautiful minor league stadium, a Dr. Pepper Star Center, etc. It helps that there's a huge and successful mall that brings in lots and lots of sales tax money ... plus a very successful IKEA.
Yeah, the Legends are going to play at the newly expanded Dr. Pepper arena. Looks really nice and a great size for the D-League.
