    For the better part of NBA history you are correct. But not for that 5 year period in which the Spurs won three, while the Lakers lost to a team in the finals the Spurs beat in the same venue the very next season, then missed the PO's, then dropped a 3-1 lead, then lost in the 1st round in 5.
