Spurs go 6-26 from beyond the arc. That's 23% from three point land my good people. Manu being the main culprit going for a whopping 2 for 11 from three.

You would think the Spurs would try and attack the basket a bit more knowing the team is having a bad shooting night.

Well, at least this one we can't blame it on Bonner.

Sounds a lot like last year. When you don't make major changes with the core of the roster don't expect different results.

This is where Bonner would've been helpful imo. He's easily one of the best 3 point shooters on the team and usually shows up for home games. Hopefully the rookies in Neal and Anderson will become consistent threats.

Would've rather had Bonner take up a lot of Blair's minutes last night...

Can't wait until Tiago becomes an option but he won't help with floor spacing...

Neil might be an option coming off the bench earlier to help with the outside shooting.
That said, I didn't think spacing was necessarily a problem. Manu didn't have much problems driving in the first half, and neither did RJ in the second.
Manu did have a poor night shooting from outside, but you also have to remember that at least a couple of those shots came from the shot clock expiring.

You have to give credit to NO. They defended the P&R very well, and that pretty much neutralized Blair and Tim for most of the game. Having a shot blocker in Okafor also provided an intimidating factor inside. On the other side, we defended the P&R very badly. West simply shot over Blair every single time. Paul got into the lane in the second half whenever he wanted unimpeded.

Stressing on the 3 point shooting is fool's gold, IMO. There will be nights where shots don't go in, and defense is the only constant that will keep you in those games.
    We're not there yet.

Bonner's better at pick and roll defense and defense in general as well...Blair's gotta really work on his game if he wants to stay a starter.

Bonner is simply a taller body, but there's no intimidation at all. Although right now Blair's D is so bad, than Bonner might actually be an improvement, however slim. At this point Dejuan needs to pick up his game not just to save his starting spot, but to actually stay on the floor.

Blair's got zero intimidation factor as well. Hopefully he gets better, he got a lot of minutes last night so hopefully that did something.

I think we have to look a little deeper than missed shots. Blair and Duncan did not space the floor very well when they were on the floor. This caused the driving lanes to be clogged and forced the Spurs to shoot more than they wanted to from the perimeter. The Hornets just played off of this and cheated towards the shooters, which provided for contested shots. The inside game needs to adjust for the outside game to flourish.

People make it sound like "attacking the basket" is some automatic thing.

Shooting poorly? Don't worry! Just drive to the basket there's a 100% chance that you'll either get the layup or get fouled!

Most of our big three - (well tony and ginobili) - when given the opportunity, will try to go to the basket. At the same time, if you're given a wide open 3 pointer, you have to take the shot. Sometimes they just don't go in.

If Ginobili had hit 6 of 11 or 7 of 11 3 pointers and/or the spurs won, you would not be making this thread.

It seems like people have this insatiable urge to place blame on something/someone after a loss.

Also, I'm not saying all of Ginobili's 3s were well-advised. I can clearly recall 1 or 2 occasions where the 3 seemed forced. The rest of them were either wide open or not well contested. I distinctly recall Ginobili missing some wide open 3s. That's not bad decision making on his part, though. If you have a wide open 3 - you take it.

George Hill too - he was 0 for 4 but it's not like they were bad 3 point attempts. One of them was wide open (a second chance attempt after Blair secured an offensive rebound, I believe). So he missed, tough luck for spurs. You can't blame him for taking that shot, though.

Every single one of these posts highlights a major issue of this team and why ultimately, they aren't a contender.
