Sorry guys I totally disagree and you can hold me to it. Bonner will be good this year.
I do disagree with you - I think boner's a one trick pony and with the ability of our big men, we'll need more than that. To say that his defense is adequate is laughable - maybe it's adequate for a no jumping, short armed big man, but not what we need for a big man getting 15+ minutes.

While I don't share the joy of boner's injury like the OP, it might give Pop a view of some alternatives to boner getting more minutes than he should.

Bonner has had plenty of great games as a Spur, and he's had plenty of games where he has played good defense..particularly in the 1st half of the season 2 years ago..

And there's your mistake. He shouldn't be getting 15+ minutes unless he's absolutely on fire from outside or having one of his rare monster games. You guys keep thinking he's a center just because Pop put him there. I'm waiting for some dumbass to call him a "seven footer" again.

We gave Bonner benefit of the doubt for a while. I'm giving Blair a couple of weeks to get his brain wrapped around starting.

Seems only fair. Hoping Pop has a slightly shorter hook with Blair, though. Blair has quite a bit more talent behind him than Bonner did. Remember when Pops Mensah Bonsu looked good? That's not because we were delusional, it's because the front line was that thin.

With the way Neal & Anderson have looked early, I really question why the Spur's outbid themselves to sign matt....4 years & $14 mil?? How about 3 years $10 mil with %50 guaranteed in year 3? That's what the contract should have looked like, & even then, that's way gracious.

I'm not getting the comparisons. They don't play the same position.

If anything Bonner's not really even a defensive liability, he gives a lot of effort on that end. Bogans and Mason on the other hand. They might be the anti Magons.

Agreed, Bogans and more specifically RMJ were the liabilities

his liability is his defense - his hustle is oustanding, but his defensive talent is not

I think the comparison is Anderson & Neal (at a very small sample) being more rounded of basketball players than boner.

Bonner brings 3 point shooting & that's about it. Neal & Anderson can take & make those 3's at a higher clip for $1.5-2 mil per year. I would have rather seen bonner walk than the Spurs give him 4 years $14 mil.

    Big men get paid.

Big men who can shoot threes get paid more.

It's well below the average, so I don't see the reason to get up in arms about it.

Yep. Can't teach size. Did Bonner get too much money? Yep. Did Bonner get way more than the going rate for a big who can shoot 40 percent? Nope.

You have to agree, 4 years without any sort of team option is overkill. We outbid ourselves...why?....they could pay Brian Cardinal the minimum to put up 3's.

It's funny how much people overreact here..all this talk after Neal played one good game..
Bonner has had more bad games and played bad D when it counts against great teams or in the playoffs, I don't get how anyone still thinks this dude is a legit player in this league!

He is good in spot minutes but not a starter nor a C in the NBA! I would not mind someone taking his mins because he has had years here and has done little sides a few games in the reg season. When the playoffs come he freezes up like the water on the road in January.
If anything Bonner's not really even a defensive liability, he gives a lot of effort on that end. Bogans and Mason on the other hand. They might be the anti Magons.
Here comes the effort thing again, well he give effort and hustle . That does not mean he is worth a shyt there.

Bonner is like a re ed kid, they find reasons to not hate him and keep the morale up on him, he hustles and gives effort

It's just not that much money in the NBA.

And Bonner is better than Brian Cardinal, who once got a full MLE contract,

Actuallly Blair is at risk of playing a limited role and minutes come playoff time. Unless he can prove he can handle length, come playoff time I see Pop stretching Tim, Splitter and Dice minutes leaving Blair's role to a 10 to 15 min guy.

    bull chumpdumber...

really? you're gonna make that argument? Matt Bonner, I think we all except for maybe you has no impact on the win loss column. He has no upside, he is a one trick pony that really isn't good at the one trick. He plays smaller than Mugsy Bogues in the paint.

Wake the up already...Matt Bonner getting 4 years is total bull . I didn't know it was 4 years, now I am even more irate over this bull ...

    Come on man...

That's completely stupid. Bonner can play any spot on the front line so long as he's in there to shoot three pointers and be an energy guy, which means coming off the bench for limited minutes and being careful of the matchups when he's in. Starting him and asking him to defend guys like Lamarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol in the post night after night after night is ing re ed.

If putting Mason at point guard was a "big mistake", then starting Bonner for a season ranks up there with Vietnam and Prohibition.
Careful, OV, you're actually making sense. That's not very popular on the internets...

If Bonner's gonna get beat out for rebounds consistantly...might as well bench him and put in 2 guys who aren't gonna get rebounds and hit threes.
