I'm really enjoying watching the young guns. I hope the trend continues but all of us were freaking because of the lack of depth at the 3 and Jefferson is on fire and Anderson looks cool, some may say cool as Ice.
Splitter and Blair can both pass and catch in traffic. They will be effective in the pnr working together and with Manu.

Guilty as charged. From what I saw of him in college I thought he was just an undersized center who dunked really hard on inferior players. Last preseason when he was shooting from outside he caught my attention. I've watched all the Clippers games on the Season Pass free preview. Kid can ball his ass off. I hope he stays healthy for the next 20 years.
I liked a lot what the 3 rookies did in this game. If the trend continue, Spurs will have a lot of depth this year with 11 quality players.
The decreasing amount of double teams Duncan has faced in recent seasons, I believe, is less predicated on his decline and more predicated on the talent and firepower that now surrounds him. Two seasons ago, there wasn't enough firepower surrounding him. Last season, there wasn't enough outside shooting surrounding him. Now, there appears to be an ample amount of both.
He does appear to be attracting a few more doubles early this season than he was last season, but I think that's more a product of teams looking at the Spurs being a slightly above average three-point shooting team last season and testing out unproven commodities like Anderson and Neal. Also, testing out Jefferson, to see if he'll have a bounce back season from beyond the arc. If by mid season this team is an improved three-point shooting team over last season's team, as they figure to be, I suspect we'll see less double teams again.
McDyess is picking up where he left off last season. Once Bonner returns, the Spurs will be able to better preserve him throughout the season, which will be key down the road.
The Spurs need to at least be at 45% or under. 46.3% against an awful shooting team like the Clippers is not good enough.
Dude you follow the Big 12. How in the world would you think this? From my perspective he was clearly in a league of his own two years ago his sop re year.
My only question was his durability, as he had issues his freshman year with the knee.
Great to see the young players doing well, but just as importantly it's great to see Pop give these young players a chance to succeed coming right out of the gate. That's almost more surprising then RJ's 180 turnaround from last year.
A lot of positives so far into the season. And that's with Hill and Blair playing like crap. If they can get it into gear, things look good on paper.
I'm not a gigantic college basketball fan, but yeah I saw him enough that you'd think I'd have known. With so many great players skipping college or leaving after one year I mistakenly wrote him off as a man among boys. His outside shooting and his ball handling were a complete surprise to me. I also hate Oklahoma so maybe I was overdosing on Haterade. Funny how it took like one preseason game in the NBA for me to wake up.
I only wish people stayed all 4 years in college so we woulda had a big12 with griffin at OU, durant/augustin at UT, KU being KU, Beasley at KSU, and Baylor having their scary ass team all in the same season.

I'm not a proud man, so it doesn't hurt me to agree with this. RJ looks like a different player this year. Next step - play well against a tough opponent!Maybe Richard Jefferson really did turn over a new leaf during the summer. He has gone from being a second-guessing, unconfident streaky player last year to being a steely-eyed machine this season. Against the Clippers, Jefferson made perfect decision after perfect decision. He’s playing at a great pace right now and looks much more comfortable than he did at any point in his first season in San Antonio. Let’s hope it continues.
I'm getting a little worried about Blair. Where did that killer-instinct he had last year go? On the flipside, out of the gate Neal and Anderson look like solid NBA roleplayers, so that's a major plus.
Finally, very interesting comment on Simmons and you're spot on - Pop is using him as a PF and he looks quite good on D in that role. Looks like he'll challenge Bonner for minutes there, and Pop will probably go to Bonner when he wants 3s and Simmons when he wants Ds.
PS Anyone with any doubt that Griffin is a beast hasn't seen him play. Kid is going to be a 20/10 machine for the next decade. The thing that astounds me about him, besides his quickness, is his body control and hand-eye coordination - he is excellent at contorting himself around defenders, and makes tough, awkward shots around the basket look easy. Total BEAST.

clippers... i will be exited when we will have a convincing win against a solid team. After Indiana, it was wow some progress to make defensively but Offense was brilliant, spurs contender again. After NO it was, our D sucks ass, we miss Matt freaking Bonner. After Clippers wow we are good, our D improved a lot, we have a lot of depth.
I'm obviously exited after this game like everybody but I don't forget that we played the clippers and that our shots and 3s were falling.
Scary to think Tim defended Kaman well and Kaman ends up with: 18 pts, 8 reb, 5 ast on 53% FG.
Seems to be a case of the box score telling a different story than the game. Both Tim and Kaman struggled but ended up with solid lines.
Kaman made alot of guarded jumpers. so again, like you said another mistelling box score.
Well I overestimated the minutes pop would give Master Splitter in his first game, although he easily could have played twice the amount. Our interior d would have been better against the clips most likely, which is sick considering only allowed 88 points.

While sitting courtside Monday night getting ready to do Clippers Live, I caught myself looking over at the Spurs side of the floor as they were warming up and thinking about how they have been so good for so long.
Over a decade long in fact.
The Spurs have been one of the NBA’s elite franchises since 1997, winning four les in that span. Don’t tell me it’s just because of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker. Or because of David Robinson, Sean Elliott and Avery Johnson.
It can’t be just because of a couple of good players.
Head coach Gregg Popovich and the Spurs just have a way of doing things right as an organization.
