ravens r going after his ass
Shawne Merriman passed a physical on his final day as a San Diego Charger, earning him a measure of freedom.
The team officially waived him Tuesday, which means Merriman will indeed be available on the same day Randy Moss is on the wire.
Merriman was a first-round pick in 2005 taken one spot after DeMarcus Ware. For a while, there was a healthy debate over which player was better.
Two years later, the Chargers took Craig "Buster" Davis in the first round. He hasn't experienced the highs of Merriman, but has seen the lows. Davis was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday with a groin injury.
This will go down as Davis' most productive season; he recorded 20 catches for 259 yards and a score. The team re-signed tackle Adam Terry to take his roster spot.
