Andrew Bynum could return to practice court next week, will start when returns
Kurt Helin
It’s not like the Lakers are struggling, they are 5-0 and with one of the best point differentials in the league. Kobe is clearly 100 percent, playing in the World Championships has Lamar Odom in midseason form, Gasol is Gasol, and Steve Blake and Matt Barnes are fitting in well.
But it is all about the Lakers offense. It is fantastic — Los Angeles is putting up more points per possession than any team in the NBA, 117 per 100 possess. But their defense has been average — 13th in the league at 103.8 points per 100 possessions.
The reason is that they don’t have a real shot blocking presence in the lane. But there is good news on that front. Well, if you’re a Lakers fan.
Andrew Bynum could return to the practice court as soon as next week, Phil Jackson said, as reported by Mike Trudell Lakers.com. He is almost fully back to “load bearing activities” — running on the treadmill — and next up is basketball activities in practice. The first steps toward games and a return in a few weeks.
When he does return, Jackson said Bynum would start and Odom would go to the bench, according to the Land O’ Lakers blog. This is what Jackson did in the past, for a couple reasons. One is that Odom is more mature of the two and better able to mentally handle the bench role.
Second is to keep Bynum warm — he comes out and warms up pregame, and when he sat then came in off the bench he seemed to spend time just getting lose again. When he just came in he was much more of a force in the game.
That may be around the end of the month, if he really is back on the practice court next week.

countdown to the NBA getting royally ed..
Blessings..since I'm on record saying that I'm going to leave ST if the Heat don't win the le(barring injury), are you willing to leave ST if Bynum has another serious injury this season?..get your balls out..
Are we going to finally see a Oden-Bynum matchup?
Never forget the opening 2 or 3 minute of the 2008 season opener. Never forget.
Bynum = Extra icing on a already heavy iced cake
The shot-blocking and clogging of lanes is just gravy.
When Bynum returns to full strength, it's going to be so unfair...
Look at this got pussing out already. As much lebron as you suck and as much as you talk you are going to add stipulations to your ? You are a disgrace, even for a camel jockey.
The Lakers don't even need Bynum to win it all but it's a lock now if he is healthy.
The stipulations were from the beginning..I'm not going to kill my NBA forum due to injuries..
I called him on that weasel out awhile back. Stupendously hilarious considering the Lakers just repeated despite injuries.
The Lakers don't win without KG and Perkins injuries the last 2 years, so it works on both ends..
The stipulation was there when I first mentioned the bet in July..have some balls and take the Bynun bet..
already happened. they played chess at the hospital.
Yeah, when Bynum visited Perkins & Oden.
Gonna be funny when Bynum comes back healthy and stays healthy. The forum won't even know how to react. They'll concede en masse just like the rest of the NBA...
true, Perkins + Oden were sharing a room and Bynum was staying nextdoor.
keep dreaming kid
No, actually, Bynum was too busy playing and winning in June to do that.
Any more food comparisons you wanna throw in there?
All this food talk is gonna get spurfan excited.
