Dallas Cowboys Coach Wade Phillips Fired

Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips has been fired.
Jason Garrett has been named the new interim head coach. Garrett had previously been the Cowboys assistant head coach and offensive coordinator.
The Cowboys are off to their worst start since 1989, with a 1-7 record. That record includes five straight losses.
This is the first time, in Dallas Cowboys history, that a head coach has been fired mid-season.
The Dallas Cowboys are scheduled to hold a press conference at 4:00 p.m.
CBS 11 Sports is covering the story and will have more details as they become available.

So who's taking over? I kind of agree with what Trent Dilfer said yesterday, and that's if the next head coach isn't already on the staff, you shouldn't make a firing midseason. Although in the Cowboys case, it almost seems like Jerry had to do something. The players don't even care anymore.

Is Bill Cowher the head coach next season?

Don't worry though. The Cowboys have the Lions in a couple weeks. Jerry Jones could be the QB and the Cowboys should win (not that winning is necessarily what they want to do at this point). But at least they'll have another win on the season.

It's in the article...Garrett is the interim...after this year? Who knows...let's see what Jason can do first.

he's been a terrible OC after his first year....why does anyone think it'll be any different with garret as the HC? they're gonna be the same.

It's the right move to make, he's only the "interim" HC...the season is lost and with the uncertainty of next year's CBA, you don't wanna commit to somebody else.

Jason Garrett probably isn't the guy...even if he does show promise as a head coach, i'd rather have Cower as the HC next season.

And I love how LeBron is tweeting about the cowboys...calling them his team. That is a Yankees fan and a Cowboys fan.

The Jason Garrett Era is beginning, and will last 8 games. Garrett won't do jack and Campo as a DC is almost as bad as Wade as the DC.

We'll see what happens. On the plus side the Cowboys will get a pretty good draft pick. Unless they gave it away to the Lions.

Cowher will go to Carolina. There were rumors flying that JJ has spoken to Gruden but nothing substantial.

They should have fired him after the loss to the Giants in the 2007 playoffs tbh.

I wouldn't mind John Fox if all else fails. If the Cowboys decide to wait another year Jeff Fisher is a definite possibility.

This is what I heard too...Cowher's daughter's are in North Carolina, I think. I'd rather have Gruden anyway...love his style..he's a football guy...period.

He's my other hope...Fisher or Gruden and I'd be on Cloud 9.

Fisher is happy in Nashville. He might have some issues with Bud Adams, but he's not stupid enough to think Jerry would be any better.

We can always hope..sometimes certain personalities clash, and others work...it's worth a thought, at least.

Finally...I'm not a Cowboys fan by any means, but seeing how long Jones kept Phillips as the ship kept spiralling downwards is a travesty to the faithful who do like the 'Boys. Though they should've probably let him go a couple years ago and especially after losing in last year's playoffs.

My money is Childress is next...
