The NBA announced today that New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul was selected the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, Nov. 1 through Sunday, Nov. 7. It marks Paul’s fifth time to win the honor in his career and the first time a Hornet has been awarded it since the 2008-09 season (Paul, Mar. 16-22). Paul was named the Western Conference Player of the Month last season for the month of January.
“I am extremely grateful to have been named player of the week” said Paul. “Last season was tough for myself and our team. We all worked very hard during the off-season and are very excited what Coach Williams and Dell Demps has developed here in New Orleans. This award wouldn’t be possible without them, my teammates and our commitment to each other.”
Paul has led the Hornets to their best start in franchise history, 6-0, with all wins coming over teams that were .500 or better last season. The Hornets and the Los Angeles Lakers are the only remaining undefeated teams in the NBA. Paul led the Hornets to a 3-0 week averaging 17.3 points on .514 shooting from the field, 11.0 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 3.7 steals.
The three-time All-Star collected 25 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and four steals in a 107-99 road win at Houston on Nov. 3. Two nights later, he helped the Hornets secure a 96-93 home win over Miami with 13 points, 19 assists and five steals. Over the last six seasons there have been 35 instances in which an NBA player recorded at least 19 assists in a game, but only three of them did it when his team scored fewer than 100 points. Paul and the Hornets have been the tandem in all three of those games. A night after the Miami home win, Paul helped the Hornets grind out a 87-81 road win in Milwaukee by collecting 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
Paul is second in the NBA in assist-to-turnover ratio (5.54), third in assists (10.2) and seventh in steals (2.33).

well deserved award, said in all honesty. hornets are by far one of the only 4 teams with perfect records, the other 3 are lakers, Heat and Rockets.
