    I think for a year or two. The NBA changed the rule after the Spurs used a retirement exception for Sean Elliott to sign Samaki Walker in 1999-2000, and then brought Elliott back later in the season after his kidney transplant.

    Yao DOES NOT leave game with foot injury. Nothing is wrong with either foot for Yao. It's a strained tendon in his leg and he can return for the game (but probably won't).
