He had some nice games towards the end of Summer League and he's got the athleticism our backup 3 spot needs especially with Anderson out.

I think he could be a pleasant surprise like Garrett Temple was at the end of last year during Parker's injury.

What are you guys hoping/expecting out of Gee?

If Gee gets spot minutes here and there I'm expecting him to bring some athleticism to the team, decent D, and some aggressiveness on offense. I don't think he'll ever be the shooter Anderson is but he can use his athleticism to get to the rack...

Despite having a solid performance during the SL, he had a horrible preseason.

I'm hoping Pop gives him a second chance, and he'll redeem himself and play to his strengths.

the guy only played 3/7 preseason games and only a total of 32 minutes in those 3 games, all which were either blowout wins or losses. so i wouldnt say he had a horrible preseason, just not enough playing time. the spurs have the guy and andersons out; might as well give him a chance, you never know. i just wanna see what hes got.

As of right now barring trade or FA signing, they really don't have a choice but to play Gee, unless they have 0 confidence in Gee.

Exactly...if you are not going to play him now either send him to the D League (if that is an option) or cut him loose. Let's all hope RJ continues his high level of play.

    James Anderson 2010-11: 6'6", 215lbs, age 21.
    6 games, 17.7 mpg, FG% .424, 3% .500, FT%.667, 7ppg, 1rpg, 1.5 apg, 0.7 TO

    Alonzo Gee 2009-10: 6'6", 220lbs, age 22.
    11 games, 16.5 mpg, FG% .475, 3% .778, FT% .621, 7.4ppg, 3rpg, 0.6 apg, 0.91 TO

Seems eerily similar, but should be pointed out that Anderson shoots outside a lot more (>3 three-point attempts per game compared to <1), and blocks a lot more shots, and Gee put up those numbers with the Wizards. Still, they were high enough on him that he started 2 games last year. Or they were trying to tank.

I think there's a decent chance he gets 15 minutes a game while Anderson's gone. We're 6-1 and I think it's a good risk to give Gee play time to see what the kid's made of.

Give him every one of Ja's minutes for a game, and tell him it's his job interview. Either he can play or he can't. Let's find out.

Not expecting Gee to replace JA outside shooting, but his defense should be as intense as JA's and I think that is what will keep him around.

    Malik Hairston begs to differ.

I just wanna see Gee attack the rim and be aggressive. The Spurs will continue to go through scoring droughts in which case they'll need to manufacture easy points via free throws and easy transition baskets.

This is our absolute best solution for the backup 3 right now. You have to let Alonzo play through some of the growing pains right now. His decision making is questionable and his outside shooting is extremely streaky, but his ability to pressure the ball and create turnovers is a big plus.

I am amazed that I could be so down about missing a rookie that has played in all of 6 games, but I am. Anderson is a great fit for this team and was playing smart and efficient basketball. Gee is not going to be anywhere near as smart or efficient, but, if Pop lets him play through his dumbass moments, can be a decent solution at the backup 3 and even have some games where his offensive output will make posters here lose it and say to with Anderson.

This kid needs to play. We can't afford to wear out Ginobili.

Fair enough. And we really only need it to work for Alonzo for about half a season.

That's what should happen. Instead I expect overplaying Manu and playing Hill out of position. But hopefully Pop's recent trust in young players wasn't just a passing phase. We'll see.

I hope Pop gives Al Gee (algae?) a ton of burn vs teams like the Sixers. Why keep him and let him rot on the bench when the opportunity has risen with the injury of JA? Either that or Neal is going to get a lot of minutes and the Spurs will go small 1,2,3 positions all night when RJ is not in which would suck.

I don't think he will do too well. Our offense requires the SF to be able to hit the 3 with some consistency particularly from the corners. I do not see that in Gee's game.

Expecting nothing more than spot minutes in garbage time games. Not even worth starting a thread over.

Gee has become the team waterboy and towel boy. Don't get too excited. Pops had high hopes for Temple and we see how well his career as a Spur turned out.
