Magic can't add anything with Rashard Lewis on their roster

Dwight Howard wants to stay in Orlando, but those closest to him say that signing a contract extension this summer with the Magic isn't a gimme.
Not "automatic" I'm told.
Magic CEO Bob Vander Weide told me he wouldn't be surprised if Howard waits to make a decision, largely because of the uncertainty of the labor situation possibly affecting salary structures.
But there's certainly more behind Howard's thinking:
He might well make his mind up whether to accept an extension based on how the Magic fare through the playoffs this season.
Howard will determine if he needs more help to win a le (he does), which will put the front office into the proverbial front-court press to obtain another star (very difficult).
Let's face it: This is the hammer Howard holds over the franchise — and he should swing it.
This is how the superstars are doing it now, calling their buddies and joining forces. It's a league of copycats at levels great and small.
(I remember Carlos Boozer coming into the Magic dressing room last year to visit, wearing the newest, priciest headphones; weeks later several Magic players had them.)
Clearly, in ignoring Denver's offer of a three-year, $65-million extension, Carmelo Anthony has taken his cue from the LeBron James-Chris-Bosh- Dwyane Wade trio in Miami and Boozer teaming with Derrick Rose in Chicago.
Why wouldn't Howard?
He has another season left on his contract after this one before he can become a free agent. He has a player option at $19.2 million for 2012-13 if he desires.
Howard wants to remain with the Magic. But he wants to win a le even more.

Otis has got to be one of the worst GM's in the NBA - too many bad signings and bloated contracts which gives them just about zero flexibility and they still have huge weaknesses compared to the elite contenders. Orlando ownership is good in the sense that they are more than willing to pay $$$ but they should've fired Otis and SVG long ago imo. I can't imagine players wanting to play for SVG for their entire careers either, SVG seems even more annoying than Avery Johnson and SVG has been called out publicly by his players including Dwight several times...
Dwight needs to GTFO to wherever CP3 or D-Will is at by the time his contract ends....more than most players, Dwight has to make the most of his prime since his game is based so much on his athleticism...once that starts to go he's going to decline mightily....
lmao if im Howard im mad as Lewis is getting paid more than me lol...
Part of the plan. South beach welcome Dwight.
You're funny.
Most people stop bandwagon jumping once it turns out the team is a massive failure
In keeping with long standing Laker tradition of having the Best Big Man in the League...Dwight will be in LA once the gig is up in Orlando and once again Laker Brass will say thank you Orlando for another 3 les. Dwight will be old man Kobe's answer (side kick) for les 8-10...Kobe + Pau + Dwight....like I said Lebron won't sniff a ring while Kobe is in LA.
son they are in the same boat that the Hornets WERE in the last couple seasons with Peja.
It'll be interesting to see where the celebs are once Kobe retires
Cause the Lakers never had celebs until Kobe arrived...
Celebs are real Laker "fans" right?
