Props to Bonner-but I still see the bad.
The good: Obviously the win and Bonner going 7 for 7. Can't argue against this performance.
The bad: Splitter didn't get back in the game and I just don't buy Bonner ever doing this again. The result might end up being Splitter losing a lot of development time as Pop stubbornly tries for Bonner magic again-while the spurs get beat up by other physical teams.
IF-and this is a big IF....
BUT IF Pop can expertly play Bonner when he is on and still find minutes for Tiago when Bonner starts sucking...then this will be a good season.
If Pop neglects Tiago and Bonner ends up choking...then it will be the same as the last couple of years.
I am happy to have eaten crow tonight-and major props to Bonner tonight but I worry that it will end up being fool's gold.
Pop isn't going to "forget" to play Tiago.

So he Shouldve benched bonner to play splitter according to this guy's logic. That's awesome. More great commentary.
He shot ok tonight, all he needs to do now is to stop becoming a liability on defense.
Matty had a career night-- I'll be surprised if he ever puts on a performance like that again.
That being said, he still shouldn't see minutes ahead of McDyess or Splitter in the future unless he catches fire like that again or if McDyess or Duncan sits out or if Splitter, Blair or McDyess gets in foul trouble. ( That's all the "or's" for now)
All in all, great game Matty
I have no problem with him being in the game if he is hitting his shots or it's not the playoffs.
Matt did exactly what most of the educated ST members have been saying all along...Make 3's, spread the floor, and open the lane for drives by manu, rj, and TP. Some nights he is effective and some nights he will not be. Great option to have and well worth the price he is being paid.

He's a one trick pony. He can't rebound, and he can't defend. He hurts the team more than helps unless he's making threes, which, based on his long record, means he's useless in an important game. Stay glued to the bench.
Mighty impressive game from Bonner, props to him. He was hot tonight and the spurs rode his back to an easy win. If Bonner can have a handful of hot shooting games where he sparks the spurs to victory he'll have earned half his paycheck.
The other half he'll earn when he proves he can do this when it matters in the playoffs (at least shoot a respectable 40%). Only then will he have earned his full paycheck.
And I hope people keep things in perspective, and not start counting on this type of performance from Bonner every night. The spurs aren't going to ride Matt Bonner to a championship, they are going to need Splitter's defense, Blair's rebounding, & McDyess' toughness even more IMO.
