No.
Do you consider the PGA tour to be a sport..or a hobby? Having an argument with two friends who say it's a hobby since you can be out of shape and still be successful..if you agree with that, can you rule Baseball out as a sport too?
all sports have out of shape people

If you go off of what is commonly accepted such as wikipedia entry then yes. See below.
A sport is an organized, compe ive, entertaining, and skillful physical activity requiring commitment, strategy, and fair play, in which a winner can be defined by objective means. It is governed by a set of rules or customs. In sports the key factors are the physical capabilities and skills of the compe or when determining the outcome (winning or losing). The physical activity involves the movement of people, animals and/or a variety of objects such as balls and machines or equipment. In contrast, games such as card games and board games, though these could be called mind sports and some are recognized as Olympic sports, require primarily mental skills and only mental physical involvement. Non-compe ive activities, for example as jogging, playing catch, or bowling, are usually classified as forms of recreation.
Physical events such as scoring goals or crossing a line first often define the result of a sport. However, the degree of skill and performance in some sports such as diving, dressage and figure skating is judged according to well-defined criteria. This is in contrast with other judged activities such as beauty pageants and body building, where skill does not have to be shown and the criteria are not as well defined.
Records are kept and updated for most sports at the highest levels, while failures and accomplishments are widely announced in sport news. Sports are most often played just for fun or for the simple fact that people need exercise to stay in good physical condition. However, professional sport is a major source of entertainment.
While practices may vary, sports participants are expected to display good sportsmanship, and observe standards of conduct such as being respectful of opponents and officials, and congratulating the winner when losing.
They do some walking; so I guess golf is a sport
But what pisses me off the most is switching to sport channel, only to find poker on.
Since when poker is a "sport" ?????![]()

People who say golf isn't a sport are idiots. There is zero room for debate; golf is a sport (a demanding one). Anybody who says different is not only 100% wrong, they're that special kind of wrong, known as ass-ignorant.
A specialized past time, yes. A sport, no.
Yes, it is.
Then Im the special kind of idiot.
A sport must require athleticism, IMO. Golf requires no such thing, unless you consider the ability to concentrate and mimic body motion athleticism...I do not.
An athlete is someone who runs faster/longer, jumps higher, moves quicker all at a rapid pace.
My personal definition.
Therefore, golf is not a sport. Its a compe ion, but not a sport. Much like racing, being an athlete is not required.
If youre not the fittest athlete your body could ever possibly be, youd never make it on a rugby field, ice hockey or a pro basketball court. There are always exceptions (like the pics above), but just because 20 guys can get by as less--than-athletic when the other 780 guys are all pure athletes...
Flame away!
Of course it is. It ain't easy to make it to the PGA level in the great sport of Golf.
Mowing the lawn is more physically demanding than golf so no. Go ahead and rant away because odds are the people who get so offended are the people who weren't good enough to make it in any other sport in high school.
Golf is a compe ive game, definitely. But if you consider golf a sport, one must also consider bowling, pool, and darts sports.
As for anyone being "ass ignorant" arguing otherwise, here are some pics that help prove mine/DR's points:

They're just gonna respond with posting pics of fat football players. The problem is comparing the job description of a lineman in football to that of golfers
physical strength and endurance: lineman >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> golfer
technical skill: lineman = golfer
And some are offended because they are good at other sports yet suck at Golf.
All a lineman has to do is block. Anyone can do that and you don't have to be an "athlete" to do it.
Uh, no.
You remove all other compe ors and the game doesn't change.
Psst.....the same thing can be said about football.![]()
Really? You can play football alone and it's virtually the same?
You're right, it's probably more
technical skill: lineman > golfer
until you've done both competively then you wouldn't understand
Regardless, you can't even try to argue the
physical strength and endurance: lineman >>>>>>>>>>>> golfer
and when arguing what cons utes an athlete, speed, strength, and endurance come first and by far
