Every time one of these stories hits the press, it makes me think "what if" about at least 2 of my high school teachers.

No...seriously though...these scenarios have been going on for decades prior to the advent of mass communication and I think that because there is the accesibility there is now, these things are harder and harder to keep quiet. Though, I'm sure it happens more than just these ones that are getting exposed and that could be somewhat more disturbing.

Agreed. The pope would have just relocated the pedo priest to another town and have the story swept under the rug.
I remember chatting with a teacher online when I was 16. She was all freaky and wanted to meet me so she can me. She also told me that this kid would giver her back massages after class was over n stuff....
I thought it was just a rare opportunity but nowadays i realized it must've just been a well-kept secret until these kids started snitching.

Yes and yes. I'm not about to fool myself into thinking he wouldn't be a willing participant. But I also believe that for the teachers there is an element of power or control that they get off on also, not just the sex. And any relationship where that is an issue is unhealthy.
And I have some similar experience; I had a "thing" with a teacher. I wasn't forced into it, I was flattered that someone in his position had that kind of interest in me. It was exciting and thrilling, and it was something I believed I wanted. But as it progressed, it became dominated with issues of being discovered---people were noticing things, asking questions and that was a lot of pressure for me. The thrill became paranoia and it wasn't fun anymore. He was in a position of authority, and although he never used it against me, to my immature mind it was a very persuasive factor in keeping me some place I didn't want to be. I didn't have the maturity or skills to end it and it went on much longer than it should have and it was a really, really tough lesson to learn at that age.

I didn't have any teachers until College that were reasonably hot...so, it wasn't that much of an issue at my HS.
Turn this around and have an older man teacher have sex with a younger girl student and he is a sick,disgusting,pervert, and deserves instant prison sentence?

I used to think that being a teacher in a high school would be pretty difficult especially if you're a guy, but when I did my observations at a high school this semester I found it to be so bleh.
These high schoolers looked like little more than big babies..and they acted as such too. I don't know how anyone who has had a 22 year old girl could look at a 15 year old and think it's comparable.
Now I'm not worried that any student will ever try inappropriate things with me, one because I'm not an attractive teacher, and two because it makes me shudder at the thought.
On topic, this kid doesn't realize how lucky he is. There was one or two teachers in high school I'd have loved to have gotten it on with. And I'm pretty sure my confidence would have been through the roof, instead of being "scarred for life". Like some people think these kids are.
Acknowleged. While certainly inappropriateness took place in your case, as you mention. No jail time, no freak show media morons publicizing, no kangaroo court with a judge who probably does goats and baboons and takes payoffs 17Xs his salary.
Thats my beef with this *older* 25 year old and the *young* 16-17 year old.
how could a man get sexually assaulted without playing an active role himself? the male must be somewhat voluntary to cooperate with the female assaulter, mutually and reciprocally. a woman would have no means to deal with a slender penis that stays in its usual form.
