Still young enough to make a quality career for himself, 25 with few mileage on his legs.

I wish him the best. He came into the league as an immature kid who was told he's a can't miss star. Clearly he wasn't ready ... in every way. But he still has plenty of time to turn things around. He'll never live up to his being drafted #2, but clearly he does have some talent to go along with his 7 foot body.

Would the Heat be a better team with Darko rather than Chris Bosh?

Serb basketball players are just morons.

At least Darko didn't throw a chair.

I'm a fan of Darko's game, so I think it's a good deal, as long as he keeps his head on straight..he's a solid defensive player and he can rebound, he's also a decent scorer, he just has to keep his ego in check..

Al Jefferson asked for a trade earlier IIRC, and they've obviously been trying to move him..
I said this when they signed him during the off-season..I've been a fan of his game for a while now..myself and mogrovejo both predicted that he would be a successful player if he stayed in Minnesota, he has shown that he has talent ever since he joined Minny..he just needs to be reassured and loved all the time, he's sensitive..

22 points, 8 rebounds, 5 blocks vs. Tim Duncan..
23 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists, 6 blocks vs. Pau Gasol..
21 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks vs. OKC..

Those are his last 3 games..his next game is vs. GS, so he has a good chance to keep it up..

Jackson revealed he told Gasol that "the best European center's on the other team today," because Darko Milicic outplayed Gasol.

Indeed. What's worse is they kept running iso's and let him do work on timmy. I felt bad for the guy, he looked so defeated

This is spot on. He needs to be coddled and have some one continuously pat him on the back. Which is exactly why things went so wrong for him with Larry Brown. There was no way the 2 of them were ever going to be on the same page. LB was probably the very worst coach he could have had, especially as his first go at it in the NBA.

Only to a certain extent. Larry Brown could have coddled and babied Darko all he wanted, it wouldn't have mattered because he didn't play him any minutes. Darko needed in-game experience as much as anything. LB could have been best buddies with Darko, but what would that have done if he still didn't play him?

But take nothing away from Darko's lack of patience and discipline. His work ethic was while in Detroit.

He's moody as . He's the typical guy that becomes useless quickly if he doesn't get touches all the time. That's why the Minny situation works for him.

he has all the physical tools to average 20-10 in this league. too bad no one's ever averaged that on physical abilities alone.

like it has in the past, his midget brain will probably get in the way sooner or later from reaching his full potential, or even 75% of his potential. i can see him averaging 13-14 ppg 8 rbg 2 blocks for a whole season.

still really good, but far from his potential. we've seen guys like him before. Rasheed Wallace was one. never wanted to reach his potential.

I don't think Darko really had any chance in Detroit..it was just a bad situation for him in many ways..a project player joining a contender, a coach that doesn't usually appeal to younger player, lack of a work ethic..

I agree with both of you that Brown could have obviously had a big impact on Darko in multiple ways, but there have been plenty of reports that have talked about his poor work ethic, as Jam said..

It would have been pretty interesting to have seen him work and learn from Ben Wallace and 'Sheed though..

You can tell how sensitive he is when you watch a Minnesota broadcast though..their announcers actually talk about "Darko smiling" or "Darko angry" throughout the game, commenting on his emotions as they change..I don't think a player with his mentality will ever be great or anything, but he can definitely develop into a good, reliable C in a league that lacks bigs..

Rasheed's lack of reaching his full potential as a player is much different from Darko's. Rasheed didn't care about individual stats, but he cared about winning. Early in his career, Darko just didn't care period.
